Looking for the trash

I was wondering if the X-Terra 505 can be adjusted to find the "junk" and not worry about coins and so forth. I am cleaning a old right away and specifically looking for railroad spikes, big bolts, and other steel/iron. I know most people want to discriminate the junk, but I want to find it and not anything good right now. I know there could be enough variety on the acres to have it beeping all the time as I noticed on a buddies that showed me his. Thanks for any help.

Don't think I have ever seen a question lie this. But to answer your question yes you can. You just reject what you don't want to dig. Set some coins down and scan them and see the readout and the reject that number.

My X-terra actually does this all on it's own. If I dig it...it's trash. If I choose to not dig...I'm sure it's a coin so I then decide to dig it...and it's trash.

Good luck with setting up your X-terra 505 like mine.

And, my apology for my humor.

You can also avoid small stuff in favor of larger thicker heavier pieces by sweeping with your coil 6-8" above the ground.

Okay, I will give it a try. In the future I would like to go look for things as most people do with a metal detector. Over the years as we have continued to clear more of this ground I have picked up literally hundreds of railroad spikes and such. I know in one spot many years ago it appeared a crate had broke open and been spread heavily in an area. In the last 2 years we bought a bordering property and cleaned off what used to be the old tile factory with underground kilns or such with passages between them. Have found quite a variety of things over the years just walking it after disking or plowing it up again. My buddies detector was just blimping out all sorts of tones with each pass...and rather than learning the tones and knowing them passing over so quickly, I want to concentrate on pulling up the spikes and threats to tractor tires.

If you only want to find iron I would set up one of your pattern modes to only except iron. block out all of your + numbers and open up all of the - numbers.

Not the treasure hunter, but I have had fun. Found over 200 spikes and another 25-30 pounds in a few hours a evening here and there. I have found readings of plus 15-45 are other metals or large pieces of iron that are 10-12" deep. Is there a best MHz coil I should be using? I will go over this property for years and I imagine keep on finding things. Checked to see if anyone had a t handled shovel as the palm of my hand is sore from jabbing and digging with little shovel. I have been informed by several drive by people I know to not quit my day job. Oh well, I'm having fun. Appreciate the help. Sweep 4-5 inches above ground with sensitivity on 7 and it seems to work.
