Looking for the RIGHT detector in Boca Raton

Hi Everyone,

I haven't done this in several years and the last detector I had was a Garrett 300. I currently live on the Beach in Boca Raton Florida and i would like to use the new detector in the surf, as well as the sand. Any suggestions on what would be a nice detector that is fairly easy to use and at the same time cuts through the junk? I was kicking around the idea of the NEW White's Beachunter 300.

I am thinking that this might be a little more detector than i was looking for, since I don't plan on going in anything more than 3 ft and I'm not too excited about the built in headphones (would like the option to change the headphones if need).

Thanks & happy hunting...:wiggle:

I don't own any detector for salt water detecting, but from the reading I've been doing over the last three or four years on multiple forums, I'd have to recommend a used excalibur from Minelab.

I own mostly Garrett's, but also have an MXT, and a Detector Pro Diver (needs repair). From what I've seen/read, if I lived near a salt water beach, I definitely get a Minelab Excalibur (probably in used prices) and use my finds to buy a better one later.

Best of luck whatever you do.

I've really enjoyed my SandShark. Pulse Induction. No problems from saltwater. No descrimination. Dig everything anyway. Reasonably priced under $600.

I've been doing some reading up on theTiger Shark and I must say this seems to be the direction that I will be heading in. Thanks for the advice...

I check out the Tesoro forum from time to time.

From what I gather the Tiger is great in freshwater, especially on small gold and chains but not that flash in the salt, with poor depth.. 3-4 inches which is pretty poor.

Hop over there and scroll back through the pages looking for anything with Tiger Shark in the title or try a search.

Good luck whichever way you go.

Lou.

I tried my Tiger Shark on the Gulf Coast beach this past weekend and had to back the Sens. WAaaaaaaaay down to get it to calm down. It would still get maybe 6" depth, but that was it. My Excal rocked in the water and on the beach, easily getting some deeeep targets.
