Looking for the deepest NEL coil for a F75 . . .

Any feedback on which of these NEL coils is the deepest on the F75?

Hunter (12.5x8.5)
Tornado (12x13)

I know some large coils really only provide extra ground coverage, and minimal depth increases, so I'm looking for something that will get usable extra depth over the stock 11" DD.

Thanks!
Brian

What size targets are you trying to find? Bigger coils can miss smaller shallow objects.

I tried the Hunter and it was no deeper than the stock coil.
Was told that the Tornado would get about 2" more than the stock coil.

Speaking from my own personal experience.....

First of all, I love the NEL coils. Here's why:

I bought the Tornado coil for my F75 SE over 2 years ago before they were readily available in the US. There was very limited info, feedback and test results on them at the time. I decided on the NEL line because I wanted something different and was looking for more sensitivity, more coverage, and raw depth. A few of my hunting buddies purchased the Excellerator SEF butterfly coils (10x12 & 12x15) , and I tested them out against the stock coil. There was no noticable difference between them other than more ground coverage. So I started looking for something different.

The Tornado seemed like the way to go, i found one online and paid shipping directly from Russia. It ran me about $275 at the time.

As soon as I got it, I opened the box and bam. Right away I noticed the build quality. This thing was sexy. It came with a free coil cover, bolt/nut, and a 2yr warranty card. Then I hooked it up and took it to a CW camp to try it out.

Right away I noticed the difference in how the machine acted. It quieted the chatter and seemed to be more sensitive to small items like lead buckshot. I was impressed with the weight and overall balance for a larger size coil.

I ended up finding several civil war buttons and bullets that day, some at amazing depths. I'm talking 14" measured on a cuff sized eagle cavalry button. This in itself was amazing because this site had been hit hard over the years, so much that others had given up on it and moved on. The Tornado brought this place back to life.

What impressed me more than the performance of the coil, was the customer service from the company. This coil never left my F75 and I used it hard. About a year after I got it, a short developed in the coil wire where it attaches to the coil. I emailed the company, told them what was going on, got a return #, gave them my info, and boxed my coil to send off. A few days later I got a brand new one in the mail, which I did not expect as I had not even had a chance to send mine off yet. It was a new Tornado design, shaped a little differently. What other company will send you a brand new one without receiving your damaged coil??? Yeah, none that I know of.

Anyway, the new coil was the same build quality & performance, and I'm just as happy with it. Now I own the Sharpshooter as well. I'm thinking about trying the Storm or Attack next, heck I'd even like to swing the Big coil. I want them all.

In short, all the NEL coils are awesome. The Tornado is a great choice for added performance to your F75. You're sure to get more depth with it, but of course depth is relative to your hunting conditions.

Sorry for the rambling on. I hope this helps. Happy Hunting.

Thanks everyone. I had a Hunter coil when I had my AT Pro and liked it, but I know they don't all perform the same on all detector platforms.

I have the Sharpshooter on my F75 and like it, although it seems to have a tendancy to give a non-ferrous ID on iron.

Wolf thanks for sharing all your experience with the Tornado coil. I think I'll pick up a Tornado coil, looks like it would be a good coil for ground coverage and depth when needed.

I have found so far in my 3 trips with my new F75ltd2 that the 11 stock coil is very good
at finding big and small objects. I found a item about the size of a eraser head about 6
inches down in AM mode. Love AM mode. I also found a old toy wheel from a wagon that
looks like it was from Early 1800s about 8 inches down. I am new to the experience of finding
targets deeper than my old V3i. I also found shotgun ends from 1913 and a 22 short 8 inches
down. I have a new E-trac I have only used 2 times so far but I cannot get myself away from
this new f75ltd2 to use my other detector. This stuff above was at a site that was pounded out. Also found a skeleton key that might belong to the house (1850s)

Sounds like you're off to a good start on the F75! I agree that in general the 11" DD is generally a great coil, but there are times when it would be nice to have something a bit deeper, and a bit larger for better ground coverage when you have a large area to detect. I've had the F75LTD since 2009, and have found many deep targets. I sent it in for the DST upgrade in November and for the most part it worked great, although it had the "mama" bug in 2-tone mode, so it's back at First Texas to get that squared away as I found the new 2-tone modes unusable with that useless blaring pinpoint audio. So far my deepest coin with my F75 was a measured 11" deep standing liberty quarter. Got a 9" deep bust half dollar new years weekend last month, so it can do deep, but first you have to get your coil over the target, that's why I'm looking for a larger, proven, coil :)

I will be interested to what you find out. I would like a large coil that hammers the deep coils.

I just bought the 13" ultimate for my f75se latest version..i do really like the stock coil but wanted another inch or so of depth and the ultimate did very well on my etrac.. So we will see...

I've had the Hunter, Tornado, and Storm. The Tornado is the one you want. The Storm is a bit heavier but wasn't worth the extra weight or $ over the Tornado. On coin sized objects you can realistically expect an average of 2.5 to 3 inches more. It's a great all around search coil with plenty of depth. The Hunter is a good coil if you have trouble with EMI and don't have the upgraded DST machine. We found out the NEL coils are shielded much better than the stock coil and this makes them more stable and the machine less chattery.

I have just sold my Hunter coil as I found that it did not shape up to the smaller Sharpsooter coil for seeing thin Roman Brooches and hammered coins.Even on depth the Sharpshooter beat the Hunter coil at least in an Air test on a Roman Sestertius coin. Strange So I just use the Sharpshooter coil now. Have not tried a Tornado.

Don't know if it's the deepest it's the only one I've tried but I sure like the sharpshooter. I will probably get either the hunter or tornado after evaluating you guys opinions. I'm sold on nell though.

http://www.nel-coils.com/ gives comparisons of depth, weight, separation, and small and large item sensitivity. I went with the Tornado on my F2.
