Looking for the best machine for hot ground...

...that's not a PI unit. Got a hunt coming up in Orange Co., Va. (not DIV) and for a three day hunt it doesn't make sense to me to buy a PI unit, although I know they're very capable. I own a number of machines and would like some feedback on what others have experienced with their machines in red hot soil. Thanks for your help.

Since you "one a number of machines" why not get a widescan coil for one of them ?
Double D windings see about 70% less ground effect than concentric coils.
Willard in Spokane.

I'm in Va and ground here is so nasty I had a F5 and of all detectors I used it did the best here, I still miss it.And I have had detector that couldn;t operate here because of the ground. IMHO

I detect a lot in the Shenandoah valley, so if you don't have a DD you might as well just eyeball targets on the surface. My Fisher Gold Bug SE does pretty well there, along with the Etrac. But my ground doesn't compare to Orange county dirt. Just have to give it a shot with what I got. Thanks.

the goldtrax and also the cointrax 2 module can handle the hottest of ground without a problem. great machine and one of the deepest vlf machines ever built. also can accept a deep hunter module for added depth in bad ground and has a built in deep search mode for those targets right at the fringe or edge of detection depth to let you know something is there. if you need more information on the treasure baron you can google jb's treasure baron website as it has all of the information that you will need and the guys there are really nice and can help with any questions you may have. hope this helps and have a great day.

I have a Musketeer and I have been using it at an old school grounds that has red clay and the soil is so bad that I can't even use my pinpointer, but I have found coins 6 to 7" with this detector.
This is the only site that I have had problems with my two pinpointers and there is not much trash or iron in the ground.
I was pretty amazed when I found the first silver coins there with that detector and it gave a nice smooth repeatable signal.
Hope this helps,
Felix

Imho the MXT is the best for hot ground, I have used mine in alaska, north carolina, arizona, montana, utah, & new mexico, I still use it to this day and I purchased mine back in 2003, the only other detector better is my Infinim, I aby no means a Pro but I hae found 25+oz's s far and 2/3rds of tha with the MT where ground read 83-90 Hottttttttt. I make jewelry with my nuggets & pickers
