Looking for some help

I'm looking at buying a Tesoro Golden u max. But, I keep hearing it doesn't go deep as other Tesoro models. What I like about it is the 10 khz freq and the notching.

Is it the lack of ground balance that kills its depth?

Can the Tejons "alt disc" function as well as the notching on the u max? And, is there any other 10 khz Tesoros that have a good notching system, with a ground balance / depth?

I know the Tejon is 17 khz...it would be my last option I guess...I like coins.

Edit - Im looking at some Troy Shadows...any input on them would be great also.

The depth will depend on the type soil you're detecting in. You will get good depth with Golden if you use little or no discrimination and only use the notch feature to check targets with. With a flip of the switch you will know if you want to dig or not dig. The Golden is plenty deep for coin hunting. I'm just guessing, but it should get around the same depth as a Silver uMax without the notch feature activated. It would be nice if someone had both detectors so they could compare and post the results.

dont let the 17 khz put you off the Tejon

The only thing that gets me is how hard my mxt hit on lead, brass tabs and nickles. If the Tejon can notch as good as the U max, I'll be sold. Im just looking for a deep silver machine in all honesty. I know the higher freq Tejon will hit the soft stuff harder. Or at least so Im told thats the case with higher freq machines. After all my digging, Im starting to think the Golden is the way to go.

If that's case, get the Vaquero. For some strange reason turning up the discrimination on Vaquero doesn't seem to affect depth that much. The higher you set the discrimination, the higher you can set the sensitivity without getting any chatter.

Thats cool, didn't know that about the Vaquero. I noticed in your sig that you have owned or own a Golden. Do you like the Golden better than the Vaquero, for say hunting for coins/jewelry?

TN Mike, if I'm hunting for gold/silver jewelry and clad coins at a trashy modern park/school, I'd grab the Golden uMax. Mash Here
And Here

If I'm strickly hunting for silver coins at a site that is likely to harbor deep old coins, I'd pick the Vaquero over the Golden uMax. LInk
