Hi Guy's
I'm new to this forum. Names Richard (dirt dog) I am soon to be getting a new MD to use hear in Phial PA. and on the AC. NJ. beaches I am looking at the Tesoro Cibola or a Minelab X-Terra 30 any thoughts as how to go with this. I am open to other machines as well.

Single frequency machines are usually NOT the hot ticket for saltwater beaches, so I would stay away from either of those.

If you want a machine that will excel on the land and at the beach, including the wet sand and shallow water I would recommend the Minelab Quattro, the Minelab Sovereign GT, or the Fisher CZ-70 (there are still a few of these to be had brand new with lifetime warranty) or a used Fisher CZ-7a Pro or CZ-5. Any of those would be great. My top picks would be the Quattro or the CZ-70. Can't go wrong with either.

I haven't used the ID Excel, but this is a single frequency machine that operates at 6.5 KHz and as such, I would expect less than stellar beach performance. I know it has a beach mode, but most machines do and most that are single frequency VLF machines suck on the beach. I firmly believe you need at least a dual-frequency machine for the beach and I also believe you can't beat the Minelabs for the beach. I also love Fisher machines but if you want a Fisher machine that will hunt the beach and go anywhere on land as well then I still recommend the CZ-70.
