So I am at a park for the third time, the first time here I found a gold medallion near the basketball court.
I came back a second time and found more clad but no gold or silver, I came back this time hoping luck would be with me again.
I park the car, get out, gear up and turn on the F2 and sniper coil.and went to work.
I was right next to the parking lot, in the grass area on the other side of the court from where I found that gold.
First signal was a high foil, and it was foil.
The second signal is a 32, nickel.
Most time not really a nickel for me, that is usually a 33, but nickels are weird and this is a prime spot for gold to show up so I dig it.
Not gold, but a it was a nickel.
Third signal was a 57-59.
I figure a zinc penny, a little low but all sorts of good targets were a little off in the numbers around here before, I don't know why.
I skipped several zinc signals at the end of my hunt last time and the first time I visited here, there are so many and I knew I would come back, anyway.
This time I was fresh, I bend over to locate it with my Propointer and then dig a small hole.
I lift up the plug and I don't see it.
Dug some dirt out of the hole and I still don't see it.
The Propointer acted like it was pretty shallow from the top of the ground so this is weird, but I stick it in the hole and the zincoln is still in there so I scoop out some more dirt.
Now I am down about 4 inches and something comes out of the hole that looks like a rock.
The Propointer in the hole is silent but it goes off big time when I get it near this thing.
I pick it up and it is heavy, this is no rock.
It is still covered with dirt so I rub it off and look at it closer and it looked like some form of melted metal.
I had a thought...could it be?
I turned it over to look at the other side saw the lines and then I knew...
It was a freakin' civil war 3 ringer!!!
Holy cow. my jaw dropped and you could knocked me over with a feather.
What the heck is this doing here?
It is twisted up a bit and I think it might have been fired.
That's fine, it is beautiful to me.
This is 3 ringer # 2 for me, and both times I was not looking for this or even suspected I was in an area I would find one.
I was looking for jewelry, I had found some clad and one wheat penny before but nothing really old, now I find this.
I guess I have some research to do.
Evidently some soldiers camped, fought or traveled through here, now this park is looking even better to me.
Still way more areas to hunt, not to mention re-hunting areas I have already hit, there are some old houses here still standing and who knows what I can find around there, there is lots of clad and I know there has to be more jewelry, and now relics!
I love this hobby for the camaraderie, the excitement, the satisfaction of finding all that I do, but I especially love being surprised.
Lots of digs are thrilling, but once in a while you find something that just takes your breath away and stops time for a second...and that happened to me, today.
Man I love this hobby!
