looking for info on the SEF 15X18 for the GT

Hi Mi name is Abel, I'm new on this but i love all the information from all the experts about this phenomenon machine The GT.
I need to get the largest coil out there for this machine and I have seen the SEF 15X18 to be the largest out there, Have anyone try this one already?

Hey Abel. I had an SEF 15X18 coil for a little while. Its a big coil! Heavy too. It was just too big for anywhere I hunt. If I knew I'd be beach hunting I would have kept it. As you can imagine it was a little difficult to pin-point to say the least. I traded it away for a couple other accesories I could use on my GT. Luckily I bought mine before the price went up to almost $700. Good luck with your search. HH. Matt

Hey Matt, thank you a lot for your input. and my appreciations on your comment is always, now is there a place to get the coiltek WOT 15"? I have been looking for one my self.
Thank you again!
Abel

Abel, check the accesories for sale/trade forum on the findmall site and dont forget to check in with the site sponsors. If I had to buy a large coil for my GT again I would probably go for the WOT. HH. Matt

Unless you are cache hunting or covering a very large area the 15x18 isn't the best choice. That size coil won't have very good sensitivity to coin sized targets. Not at least at any kind of depth. I'd suggest the 15x12 if you want a large coil, but I found it wasn't as deep on coins as the stock 10" coil. The 12x10 I have now is deeper than stock and is still a nice improvement on coverage over stock. The 15x12 did get deeper than the stock 10" coil in the sand for me, just not on land for some reason.

the reason I was looking for the 15X18 is because I'm planning on going to a place that is known for catches at lease 1mt deep, when I was a kid wile plowing the field I uncover a Jar full of silver coins and I know there should be more on the ruins of old houses in that vicinity because in those days people didn't trust the banks so they buried their savings.
Thank you all for your input, I look on the sale portal and didn't found any at this time but a place a Wanted Add for it.

The 15x12 should be a good option for you cache hunting. It should pick up large objects at greater depths than the 12x10 or stock 10" coil. I just didn't think it was as good as the 12x10 for coin sized targets at depth. At least in my mineralized soil, but as said for some reason on my mineralized beaches the 15x12 did get deeper than stock on coin sized targets. Just not on land for some reason. Seemed to max out at about 8 or maybe 9" on a dime in my soil. I really like the 12x10 better for old coin hunting thanks to it's greater depth than stock and it's great seperation and stability.

You know. there is an even larger SEF coil (21xSomething) that they make for the Sovereign. I don't know if KellyCo carries it but I did see that size listed somewhere for the Sovereign. I'm sure KellyCo could special order it for you if you asked. Like I said, I'd try for the 15x12 if I wanted a big coil for cache hunting. It's still small enough to use for other things like coin hunting and beach hunting, yet large enough to get more depth than the 12x10 or stock 10" on larger targets like caches.

thank you. I just read on the conversation that you are having about the shoreage on the SEF 12X10 and look on one of the links and see that 21X coil, but you have convinced me to get the 12X10 now and letter I may try the 15X12, the only thing is that I just purchase a 180 meter and read on one of your coments that it will not work with the 15X12 but it will work with the 12X10. and because this is new machine to me I'm having trouble with the tones on the Sov. and for that reason I dig everything that beeps on.

ALL the SEF coils work fine with all the normal (external) meters. The only meter the SEFs won't work with is the internal Insight meter and there is a possible fix posted for that. The SEFs will work with the Insight meter, it's just that the meter won't report target IDs. Any other meter works just fine with the SEFs, as said.

The 15x12 is a good choice for beach hunting or open larger fields where the extra coverage is needed. As said, the 15x12 was deeper than stock on my mineralized beaches, but for some reason it wasn't deeper than stock (the 10" Tornado) in my mineralized land sites. It seemed to max out at about 8 or 9" on a dime in my soil. I think the extra ground matrix it was taking in had something to do with that. Had I been primarily a beach hunter (dry beach, not in the water....it was too much drag in the water) or hunted open large crop fields a lot I would have kept the 15x12.

The 12x10 is giving me more depth than stock on land for me, seperates better, is more stabile, doesn't false as much, and so on. I think it's the better choice for old coin hunting old parks and such, because not only is it deeper but it seperates even better than a smaller coil. It's increased coverage is still a nice improvement over stock, which helps when hunting beaches or open areas. I don't have to hold back my steps as much using it compared to a smaller coil.

For cache hunting the 15x12 would be a good choice. It should get deeper on large targets than the 12x10 or 10" Tornado, yet it is still small enough to use for old coin or beach hunting.

I just started using a 12X15 SEF and I like it a lot. I beach hunt on the wet slope and can cover ground twice as fast as the stock 10 tornado. Even after my first time I found it easy to pinpoint and I can walk at a slow continuous pace. With the 10" I have to step swing step swing.....Great for covering ground twice as fast as most any other guys on the beach!

How about the finds? were you able to find good targets? on abaerage, at the end of the hunt, it is better than the stock?
thank you Imalookin2.
Abel
