Dont use such a narrow pattern, your ferrous numbers will change with depth. Allow for ferrous changes from 10 to16 your conductivity numbers will also vary but not as much. Remember if you have an item discriminated out close by a good target your machine will also knock out the good target due to its recovery time. So swing slowly when using tight discrimination patterns. The preset coin pattern is broad and is less likely to discriminate out good targets. You will get a lot more signals and you will have to sort your way through them. I use my own pattern which is a compromise, its not as broad as the preset and not too narrow either. seeya Neilo

You are correct Neilo, for most situations, but Houston soil does not change the FE value hardly at all. A barber dine I pulled from 8 or 9" responded as it would with an air test. I have also found that if a target is even close to a non-discriminated area of the pattern I will get a semi-decent response that would make me take a closer look. Like I said, I haven't tested the pattern, but from what I have experienced so far it should do what I intended it to do. If I need to open it up I will.
