Looking for help identifying a whatzit :-)

Been a long time since I've participated here since I sold my detector. I'll be getting another soon... This post is for my father. He recently found an item that we can't really identify. He thinks it may be Brass, but I'm not sure. This was found around Warrenton, Virginia. Any help identifying would be appreciated. Looks like a little embossed horseshoe in the thin metal. This item is around the size of a half dollar.

It looks to me like half of a lady's compact. They were made in various sizes. I've dug some that still had a mirror in them. That's a cool find. Usually silver is nearby. Best of luck with your new detector and...
