I just received my new Explorer XS,but the pair of Superphone2100's I use on my Garrett GTAx1250 don't work.Could someone give me their opinion on the best phones I can get for my Explorer XS? Thanks, Kenny Ray

gray ghost NDT are my favorite, however they and maybe yours require the sunray headhone adapter/stand to use a 1/4 inch jack.. I know the superphones I had that the cable was interchangable so you might be able to get the correct type to use with the explorer, just cant remembert if tehy had them with 1/8 inch jacks.. at any rate you should at least get the sunray adapter with 1/4 inch jack and any stereo phones or a set that has a stereo/mono switch will work

I hear from David from Dixie, is that the gray ghost ndt I really good with the explorer, its the one I am getting.

I sure like the gray ghost of headphones. Thanks, Kenny Ray

hi kenny, took upstate jims advice along time ago and never looked back. if you can go with the grey ghost ndt's

I checked my 1/8" to 1/4" adaptor, and I had to remove the battery cover in order to get it to fit.
I also wasn't real happy with that much extra stuff on the back of the detector - looked like a pry bar designed to break the little Minelab jack.
Getting Sun Ray's stand might be worthwhile. It has a convertor built in.

Kenny,
First thing is to get the Sunray stand with the 1/4 headphone adater on it so you can use the 1/4 inch jack headphones with the Explorer. I feel the 1/8 inch is too small and easy to break in the Explorer and the one Sunray uses fit nice in the Explorer.
Now for headphones, The Gray Ghost and the Timberwolfs are the best I have found with the Timberwolfs giving me the best sound. With the Sovereign the Timberwolfs have the best volume too, but either one will work fine with the Explorer.
Being I am hard of hearing I need all the volume I can get and if anyone knows of a good amp for the headphones that works I would like to know so I can get even more volume out of the Explorer.
Rick

Rick,
Koss makes a small equalizer amp for headphones that works great. Can't remember the name though. I think radio shack carries it.

Thanks Rich,
I will check out Radio Shack again, I had a Koss Equilizer and it had a loud hum and worked for about a hour before it became eradic and kept cutting out.
I tried something else that i was hoping would work. I got a FM transmitter and use in the headphone jack, the type you would use on a portable CD player to transfere to the car radio. I use a walkman to transfere the sound too so I had a volume control. Worked good for the high pitched signals, but low pitched were real bad and broken up and pinpoint was real bad. Tried a differnt walkman with no luck so i tired my house stereo with the same results, so the transmitter cant transmit those low tones. I wished it would have worked as it was wireless and would have come in handy when showing a person how the tones of a good target sounded like. All they would have to do is have a walkman and they would have heard what i was hearing.
Thanks.
Rick
