Looking for detector

Hi there fellow treasue hunters, I am in the market for another detector, currently have a Fisher 1266X(Selling by the way) would imput as what is a good detector!Something with descrimination ID
Thanks For your help!

All depends on what type of hunting you prefer to do. Quattro discriminates, the Explorer 2 discriminates more finely. Both have a learning curb which takes a bit of time, if you're willing to put the effort into it. Quattro would be the better choice to start with. I did, and haven't looked back.

I agree with Golden on this one. If you want a little more discrimination reading, you might look at the Explorer, but the Quatro is definatly notheing to "sneeze at". It'll do a great job and, from what I've experienced and read on the forum, "run a pretty good race with the explorer". I think the Quatro, (probably) goes as deep as the Explorer, from what I've read and it's very user friendly. Both take some study and practice, but in the end, you'll be happy, I think, with either one. I've found penny's at a foot deep with the Quatro, and it's prettty darn accurate as far as depth and discrimination. Let us know what you decide on. I'd be curious.:|

Have another request if I may, Is there a book that reviews detectors?
Unbiased type, not put out by the manufacturer! haha!

when it comes to detectors. But to say one detector is betterthan another, well, again, comes down to personal preferrence. I have friends who have found hundreds of dollars in coins detecting at parks and reserves using the Garrect Ace 250. Probably only goes as deep as six inches, but for what they use it for, they strike it rich. Another friend loves the Seahunter over the Excalibur for underwater detecting, and you should see the stuff he's found. Again, all comes down to personal preferrence. But to sum up, the key is to LEARNING YOUR DETECTOR PROPERLY. It comes with time, patience and plenty of practice. Any detector in the hands of a master will do great in its capacity.
I haven't seen a book that goes into all the different detectors here, but with a bit of research on the net, you should be able to find the answers.
Cheers Golden:detecting::):minelab:

I havn't actually seen a book on detector comparisons, as such, but I have seen posts on this forum that compare the Quatro to other detectors and go into some specifics. I heartily agree with Golden that, whatever you buy, learn that darn unit. Learn everything about it, and it'll help you, but I'd go to some of the earlier posts about comparisons, or maybe to the other detector "types" even on this forum. I'd also just get on the "net" and start searching for info on that. Read what other detectorists with other types of detectors say about their detector. I did that, before I bought my Quatro, and that helped me make a decision on the Quatro. As for me, I'm happy as a clam, but everyone has they're own prefrences, so do your reaserch and that should help you. One last resource, and I hope I don't get in trouble for saying this, but: I called Kellyco and asked a "bunch" of questions before making a decision. I think they're expert people over there and they're probably one of the biggest most varried metal detector stores in the world. I'd say they have a lot to offer as far as info.

I agree with those above in that what is best is in the eyes of those who use it and I think that where you use it and for what type of detecting you plan on doing different detectors may be better in specific circumstances.

I learned on the Quattro and think that it does a great job once you get to know what it is telling you. I am still learning but think that if you practice some, read up on it you will be able to do a fine job pretty quickly.

I think the best choice for you needs to be based upon what you plan to detect for, the types of areas you plan to detect, how much time you want to invest on learning the detector and how much you are willing to spend.

I used a $20 bounty hunter and found coins in my yard so even the low end ones will work but have less of a capability to help you differentiate a piece of alum from a coin.

Right on Raptro!!!, You can still find coins with a low end bounty hunter, but your absolutuly right. It depends on that list you just gave to make an informed decision.:|
