looking for advice

desert

New member
Hello all,

I am new to the forum and have not used a metal detector in some time. I live in the Mojave desert where soil conditions are normally dry. The soil conditions can be any where from course sand to rocks to boulders. I will frequent old desert shacks where there will be considerable amount of nails, glass various metals and other debris. I will also frequent parks and school grounds where soil is apt to be wet to moist rom sprinkler systems and work around sidewlks of both active buildings and abandoned buildings. As many other places and homes my home has underground power lines so this maybe a problem with some detectors. I am mostly interested in coins, rings necklaces and relics.

I am interested in the Lobo super traq and would be interested in hearing from other who own this machine who work in simular areas. I am not sure if this would be the best choice given my area of operation. I have read where some say if you intend to coin and relic hunt there are better choices. Yet some say this is great for this type of hunting. Because of the sensitivity there maybe issues around buildings and homes with underground power and utility lines. If this thing has a problem with water how will this react in a city park that has just ran the sprinkler system?

any input and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the site! We are glad you are here.

I wish I could help but hav not used this machine. I know you will get the answer you need, Beale.

Desert, I have not had any issues with moist ground using the LST. The LST is probably a good choice for where you are at because of the heavily mineralized ground out in the desert. I have used mine in parks, deserts, even on saltwater beaches successfully (although my Sanshark performs way better on the beaches). There are other detectors that will give you the advantage of Target ID so you can choose whether to dig or not, but in time, you will learn the sounds of the LST and will be able to distinguish Iron from other finds, plus, you can discriminate if you choose. for my LST, I have the stock elliptical coil and the Clean Sweep. I probably use the clean sweep most of the time unless I am in a very trashy place.

IMO, allmost all the established and better known detector brands work well. The main differences are the TID and other specialty features. What leads me personally to buy from Tesoro is their price is nice for what you get and the Lifetime warranty and I like the fact they are a small american owned company (as opposed to a large American owned or a foreign made company).

I moved from Rosamond, CA to San Diego about 4 years ago. Good luck and have fun.
