looking for advice on sunray probe

I'm seriously thinking of getting a sunray for my SE after seeing them in action on the forum. I'v never seen one in person on an explorer. Does the upper shaft have to be altered and does the coil wire have to be positioned on the outside of the shaft after the sunray is mounted?
thanks, Bruce in Ct

The switch box is mounted on the outside of the upper shaft. No alterations really outside of that and yes, you will have to run your coil wire on the outside of your lower shaft after having the Sun-Ray probe attached. Just send your upper shaft into Ralph at Sun-Ray and he'll do the rest or he may have an extra shaft, but why pay for another shaft when you can use yours. You won't be detecting for awhile while this is being done so I hope you can handle the withdrawals for a few days. Hope this helps.

Thanks Eddie,
No, I wouldn't be able to handle withdrawals, but luckily I do have a 2nd shaft. Also, winter in Ct would leave some spare time anyway.

yes, and that's looked at as an advantage by many. switching coils in the field is made much easier
