Looking for advice on large coil for MXT Pro.........

Bryan/EastTN

I was looking at adding a larger coil to the arsenal for a little more depth and coverage hunting fields and have narrowed it down to the Super 12 or the S.E.F. 10x12 coil. Thought I would see what everybody thought about which choice.

Thanks in advance,
Bryan in TN

You must have purchased the 950 coil with the Pro, normally the 12" conical comes standard. If your ground is very mineralized as I suspect it is in TN, I think the SEF would be the better choice. Conical coils seem to do better in mild ground or on the beaches.

The D2 is a great coil for depth it seems to me I get as much depth from the D2 as the super12, I'm in IN and the ground is not to bad at all. The D2 gets alot better separation but gets those deep coins. HH

I use the 10" DD for the beach and for relic hunting. Very deep. I also talked to a guy in California that has the 10" x 12" SEF and he said it runs much quieter and about an inch or two deeper than the 10" DD. I plan to get the SEF. John

I use the super 12 unles I'm hunting an old homesite and then I use the little 5.3. I hunt civil war relics 99% of the time and I really like the 12, but I've never tried the SEF either.

hey i just bought that same coil! the 5.3, but i havent used it yet. i do have the 12' that came with my MXT PRO. i heard that the 5.3 was good for a lot of trash areas, but i wonder if the 5.3 or the 12 will be better for the beach, chicago's lake front.

The 12" by far. The 5.3 would awful slow going and you should dig everything on a beach anyway.
