looking for advice on how to get started in underwater detecting

I am interested it getting in to this over the next few years. just looking for some advice on where to start. I know I will have to take some scuba lessons and get some equipment. I have never dove before, but am a very good swimmer and very athletic. anybody got any starters tips. Thanks

Get an underwater detector, a mask snorkel and depending on where you are a wetsuit. Play in the shallow water, (less than 2 foot) .

Good advice from scubadetector. You might want to get the dive shop to set you
up with a good mask and snorkle(fins later) as you will need them for your
certification. Then stay in arms length water and practice finding and fanning
targets.I was using the drop and fan this weekend(with weights) in shallower
water. It was great. The next best thing to scuba, and a good way to keep
in practice.Just don't use weights unless you are familiar with ditching them
quickly,as you can drown in neck deep water as easy as 20- 30 feet deep.
That's where training and practice are important. It's relaxing to spend a few
hours snorkling and watching the bottom, fish, etc.while listening for hits,
and when you're certified it will all come together naturally.HH Joe
