Hey Everyone,

Just Wondering What Detector everyone use' for the Beach,Surf, Underwater......

I'm looking into picking one up and was looking to see what everone use'.....

I'm an avid scuba diver but never MD' underwater.. and for that matter I'd need an understanding buddie who can relate to my underwatwater finds.......

but would like to beach hunt ....

Do you intend to treasure hunt at any point while diving? If so do you want to find all metal? If the answer to that question is yes then a Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II I would highly recommend, submersible to 200 feet, as is the Excalibur. The Excaliber is 2 times as expensive though and on trashy beach/surf areas you can discriminate out the ferrous iron (nails, bobby pins and other pesky gobs of iron goop). Perhaps both would be in order. I have an extra Mark II for sale if you are interested. I would bet that there are a BUNCH of Excaliber users on this forum.

IceMan,

I use the DetectorPro HH Diver. It is nice machine and at a good price. All the electronics are in the ear cup making it very light weight and manuverable in, and under water. I only go in up to my neck but this is nice piece. If you want to drop the big dollar's and go top of the line then go with a Excal 1000. My brother uses one of these and it is great but double the price. The Garrett Sea Hunter is also a great machine. It is a PI model so it will pick up more junk than a Excal. I have never used a Sea Hunter so I reall can't comment.
Mr.Bill from SurfScanner advertises on this site, his customer service is top notch, I purchased my HH diver from him and would recommend him as a dealer.

I am a scuba diver too and this is a job for a PI type machine like Garrett's PI's However PI's will find lots of iron junk and don't discriminate like the ads lead us to believe. I have also used the Tesoro Sand Shark which is a PI and like it. The Excalibur 1000 is a very good detector which isn't effected by saltwater and discriminates well but are $$$, too. But worth it.

You might want to look into the Fisher CZ-20. It's very good and built like a tank and has a lifetime warranty as does the Tesoro's. I use the CZ-20 a lot and it has paid for itself many times over. Get the big coil/coil cover for all of these machines

Hi Ice...

I use the Whites PI PRO.. its very stable in the water and very deep seeking.. But with most PI's you don't want to use them in the dry sand... who wants to find a staple or pulltab down a foot? Dry sand hunting with drive you crazy with a PI.. So I don't dry sand hunt at all with my machine.. If you want 1 machine then go with a Excal...

What I do is use two detectors if I was to dry hunt, but I am so hooked on being in the water I really have no want to dry sand hunt anymore.. Better finds are in the water period. I rarely hunt the wet sand anymore as well either.. I have found most of my jewelry in waist deep to neck deep water...

Its up to you what machine you buy.. I'm not into favorite brand stuff and everyone has one.. Its the results that matter and knowing what to look for in the water.. Just for instance.. When I water hunt I look for area's loaded with gravel and shells and I know when I find these area's my chance go way up for finding gold... Where that shell base and gravel is was once covered with sand.. But with the next tide change or wind and that area maybe covered again.. Everyday the bottom will be different and stuff will move around all the time and its what I love about water hunting. :) One day we might get skunked and the next day in same spot we pull a few rings.. And hopefully no pulltabs lol...
