Looking for a St Pete FLA area BEACH hunting buddy

A good friend of mine has been told by his Dr. (phys rehab after a motorcycle accident) to get out and walk the beach... he's says the only way he's going to do it is if he has a MD in one hand. He is just looking to get a new MD (not a used one unless he can get a good deal on one that's been taken care of) and I think the AT Pro will suit his needs (he's looking for water resistant) but he used to dive with a Surf PI years ago.... So leads me to the point of this.

Is there anyone in the St Pete area that I could hook Steve up with to take him out and let him see/try an AT Pro? Anyone want to help a guy get back into the hobby? I told Steve to join up here and I would try to hook him up with someone.

Thanks y'all!

Hope your friend makes a full recovery and though I can understand him wanting to metal detect the beach I don't think that's what his doctor has in mind for physical therapy. I think you should advise your friend to talk with his doctor or physical therapist about this as it involves a lot more than walking. In fact, the walking is probably not going to benefit him at all since it's stop and go and at such a slow pace. But the bending, digging, etc., may or may not be beneficial to his recovery. Better for his doctor to know about this and give the advice.

The walking would be good. Even at a slow pace, it's possible to walk a couple miles depending on how long you're out. The thing that I would be concerned about in the digging/scooping. A good sized scoop can be really heavy to lift, specially if it's wet sand. Depending on his current condition and the extent of his injuries, that may not be a good thing. Now, if he has someone that will dig for him, there is nothing better for the body and soul then walking on the beach.

He did talk with the Doc and the Doc agreed that MD'ing would be a good diversion, anything to get him onto the beach and moving all the joints and muscles...

I'll pass the club info along to him, thanks
