Looking for a precious metals test kit....

Gulf Hunter

Active member
Have been trolling on the net Looking for a test kit for jewelry that is not marked. Specifically silver, but also 10k, 14k, 18k and 22k platinum, all of which usually have a marking. Some pieces of jewelry of a silver looking metal do not always have the .925 marking, but are non-ferrous and I just want to know. Do not want to purchase a kit from e-bay, but from a jewelry supply company that has reputable products. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.GH

Test kit for silver is easy, almost inexpensive and very reliable. It will cost just some $ at jeweler shop. It consists of a transparent liquid.Put a drop on the item. If it is silver the drop will immediately appear red as a blood drop.Otherwise will remain transparent.
Gold kit is also not expensive. It consists of a little stone table and a liquid. Scratch the table with the item and you will get a yellow line.Put a drop on the yellow line, if it is gold the yellow line will stay. Otherwise it will be deleted.
Of course plated gold will give the same result since you are testing the surface of the piece and not his core.
Hope this help.
