Anyone have any recommendations for a good size and brand to get? Should it be water tight?

Thanks.

A waterproof case? You are talking SERIOUS bucks!

Buy a gun case to transport it in if you need that much protection. I carry mine in a softside double shotgun case.

I do not know where I saw this but someone found a hardcase golf bag protector for traveling and was able to adapt it for his detector. He found his at a thrift shop so it was not too expensive, check some golf shops.

I have a Pelican box that I use for amateur radio rig, it is pretty big. Check out their site.........

The Pelican cases are outstanding, but Ive never used one for a detector.Might have to look into that.

Sounds a little wierd - but If your looking for an inexpensive hard case for safe transport - (would not be water proof ) - a guitar case would be big enough if you took the coil off ?
You could probably pick one real cheap at a flea market, yard sale, music store, etc.
