looking for a good entry level brand metal detector under $ 150.00

Hi everyone !

Posted this earlier but now I can't find the post...if this ends up being repeated am very sorry.
Total Newby here wanting to try some metal detecting in the mountains on some property I own.
Have no idea what brand would be a good starter detector...looked on Amazon and the reviews on some are a bit questionable. ( per fakespot anyway)
Land does have a good deal of ferrous rocks ( picked up by my roller magnet) and would like a detector that would possibly not be super sensitive to that sort of metal.
Thanks if anyone can help , I hope I don't lose where this post goes. :look:

If you absolutely have to buy brand new, Fisher F11 or Teknetics Minuteman. If you have an extra $100 then the Nokta Makro Simplex, Minelab Vanquish 340, Teknetics Liberator, Teknetics Delta, Fisher F22, Whites TreasureMaster and the Yellow Garretts are possibilities. If you are willing to buy used there are many more options. What are you searching for? Most of the detectors I listed have some ability to silence iron responses from iron that is coin sized or smaller. Bigger iron is going to break through the discrimination capacity of most entry level detectors. Also, if you are in the mountains, you may have moderately mineralized soil like you mentioned with the iron particles. That can cause some entry level detectors to be unstable and cut down on detecting depth. Even in the mildest soil conditions, the detectors I listed are going to only have an effective detecting depth on coin sized objects that is roughly equal to their coil diameter.

Thank you Jeff, I do appreciate it. Not looking for anything in particular but there was an old farm on the property , thought it'd be worth a try just to see what I can turn up that my magnet hasn't. (nails and tiny piece of fence wire, for the most part)
Surely not expecting to get rich off any finds...just something fun to try is all. If I find something really neat and possibly worth much then it's all good.
Just was thinking it'd be neat to find something bigger than coins like an old kitchen tool, metal from old farm equip. , etc.
Sounds like a lot depends on soil conditions , prob. will get lucky to find much of anything.
Appears the fisher will go ~ 12 inches deep in fairly decent soil conditions and is the cheaper of the two you mentioned so will prob. try that one out.

Thanks again!

How long have you been looking into thiis?. Plenty of good info posted above.

It is good info and again...I do appreciate it ! Just started thinking about/looking into it the last couple weeks.
My magnet is good at, again, picking up nails and wire ( and those mineralized rocks or whatever ) but would like to find something a little more interesting !

Truly a Shanghai Special..........................................from Shanghai! :detecting:
"Inexpensive" and finds large pot lids and manhole covers with ease!

I checked briefly here the other day and saw two post in response to mine suggesting a bounty hunter detector...both those post are gone .
Can anyone elaborate on what specific kind they prob. were talking about...was it maybe the TK4?
I didn't write down what they suggested, didn't realize the responses will disappear.

All of your posts right here.

He was looking for 2 replies he saw to his question that are no longer there, I guess the poster deleted them.

Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 which is the same as the Fisher F4. Very good detector for less than 100.00
