Looking for a detecting vacation

Looking into a trip back East. I live in Utah, does anybody know if there are places that you can pay a trespass fee to detect? Wouldn't really have time door knock. And know nothing East of Colorado. Thanks

???pay a trespass fee???

"Trespass Fees" are a common thing out West that ranchers generally charge for somebody that wants to hunt their land for deer and whatnot...not so much back East thank God...

That term will not be understood by most folks if you bring it up, so best to probably just go and ask or something else..:clapping:.

I had read somewhere that there were places back East, where large land owners would let you detect their land for a small fee. Didn't know if this was true? Or if anyone on here had tried places like these

OK, I had to research this and I'm still confused. The name seems completely wrong. There is no "trespass" involved, you still have to go talk to the land owner so you are still asking for a permission to hunt. Personally I would never pay to detect on any land. Land owners have gotten greedy with charging game hunters because that has become a "rich mans" game. Doctors and lawyers with deep pockets willing to throw cash around for access, so after a few years, everyone has a hand out to allow hunting on their land.

The best plan is decide the State and check the Forum in plenty of time and reach out
to those in that State and arrange "Play Dates" to detect

The other thing you can do is some research and look into "State Land" or other "Historical Areas" that can be detected as in City and county parks and also arrange to meet Forum People on those adventures if you choose to do so

Always important to know the Rules and Law about digging but certainly less restrictive then most places in the country

Good Luck and Have A Great Time

I know Jason, nobody is 'trespassing' per se, its just the accepted term used out there for the right to hunt somebodies property...As I recall, there were no set in stone time boundaries, it all depended on how easy the rancher was to get along with and how respectful you were of his property...it was considered the proper thing to offer to pay the fee...now, some of the ranchers waived it it you were helpful in some way, and especially if you killed a coyote! Some even brought this up, "kill a yote and its free!" I hunted/trapped coyotes, so I never had to pay one, the ranchers were ecstatic and usually said, "go ahead and tip over a big muley if you see one, they are always ripping up my hay stacks!"

Down in the Southern States, they have "hunting clubs"..meaning a group of guys get together and pay a 'lease' to hunt somebodies property, theres a membership fee to join, so its a similar arrangement....

Banditicey gave you some good advice, theres a member here named Masonjarr that is from MT and did the very thing she mentioned a few years back...made a big run east and was hosted by some members here, enjoyed by all...of course, you are sort of new here so you have some work to do to build some trust and all that...Good Luck, its a great thing to do.

You might get yourself free room and board in the Gray Bar Hotel when you trespass. Heck, you will even get free vitals with that room !!!! :poke:

Thanks for explaining what I meant Mud. Guess it's more of a western term. And you are correct, take out a coyote and you've made a friend for life

FYI, if your headed to Delaware, dont look at the state parks... Against the law to take anything on state property, that sucks because the state owns most of the coastline which has slot of colonial history. If you do make it to De, give me a shout. Ill see if I have anything interesting for you. Theres always the beaches here after storms. Good luck!
