I have it on authority of an old timer that used to go metal detecting years ago that there is an old old site out by Bunnell that had a mansion on it during the civil war. As it was told to me the mansion was first burned down by the Seminole Indians then rebuilt. Then it was burned down by the northern forces during the civil war. There is an old time story that has been passed down that there was a wagon load of silver and gold buried somewhere in the area, maybe on that property and maybe not no one knows for sure. Back in the 60's and 70's this old timer used to search the property and found quite a few gold and silver coins and a few caches. He can hardly walk now so he can no longer detect the area as it is quite a hike to get to the site. With a canoe or a row boat we could possibly get to the site in half an hour or less. If we have to walk it could take an hour walking through an area full of cypress knees to trip over. I have known the man approximately 7 years now and he has one of the best bottle collections in the area from his years of digging privies and metal detecting. I have been to the site, or rather quite close to it and there is an easier way to get to the site but that way to the site is posted and there is no where legal to park. I am not interested in going to this site for an hour or two. If I am going to go it is going to be an ALL DAY hunt. 6-8 hours. I am not going to reveal exactly where the place is till we actually arrive in the area. If anyone in the Daytona, Port Orange, Holly Hill, New Smyrna or Edgewater area wants to go please let me know.
