Looking for a Carbon Fibre straight shaft for my Pulse.

New member
I added a straight shaft to my Crossbow Pulse machine about 6 months back, the shaft inquestion was made by a US maker called rods_by_plugger and have to admit it is a top quality bit of kit,it was made for the Minelab Sovereign range of detector's but was able to add the control box and Arm cup from my Pulse onto the straight shaft within 5 minutes,by doing this it has transformed the balance of the detector and this means that i can swing it for much longer time durations although i am happy with the shaft which is alloy i am looking at going down the Carbon Fibre route.

So the next logic move would be to buy the Sovereign/Excalibur that the same make that i currently have, but after buying the shaft then getting it shipped over to the UK the cost would then become a crazy amount,so the way forward i guess would be to find a supplier of the carbon fibre shaft over here in the UK or Europe and then i can use the straight shaft handle from the Minelab Sovereign straight and use my Armcup, but the problem is i cannot find any of the carbon fibre tuning the same size,i currently use either the Whites or T2 bottom rod,its just the top tube that i cannot find a supplier.

Does anyone have any suggestions please.

Many thanks

Hi,
Try looking for/at carbon fibre fishing rods.
In the UK there certainly is no shortage of them.
You may have to trim it down to size/just use a section of it and maybe get someone with a lathe to whittle down your lower rod end piece in o.d.
Prices for used fishing rods are extremely moderate
Just an idea

Thanks for your reply, the fishing rod suggestion is a very good idea, working on the same theme i have located a similar type of product that is used for i guess you would describe them as flag poles or you can attach any form of banner/flag to them. These come in different lengths and a in sections and very reasonable price wise as well,so have bought the smallest 3 mtr version to try my 1st shaft out and i reckon i could well be able too get a couple of shafts out while experimenting with various designs.

Thanks again for your input and i will update on how the straight shaft goes,at the end of the day its a very easy design, using my original armcup with the control box attached all this requires is 2 bolts and i will be using the straight shaft handle from the Minelab Sovereign straight shaft that will just bolt on,the bottom shaft will be either the DFX or T2 as they are a defacto standard size and the camlock setup from rods_by_plugger as they are the most reliable camlock replacement setup going and very cheap.

I reckon i can get 2 carbon fibre straight shafts for under half the price of buying one from the US,its the shipping and import duty that is the killer for this project normally but by sourcing most of the items in the UK the cost is reduced big time.

Hi,
Good to hear that you

@skookum,i have located a 1 mtr length of Carbon Fibre tubing with the exact same dimension as my current Alloy straight shaft from a site with 4 letter's that starts with a E and ends with a Y so basically it is ultra strong and only weighs 100 grams, everthing will then be able too transfer over as soon as i have drilled the holes for the Armcup.

I was going to use the carbon fibre flagpole/banner pole but i dont think it would have done, when i have finished it i will try and post a picture of it,the price was very cheap as well.

Thanks again for your input.

Hi,
Glad you were successful.
Put a tight fitting short piece wooden/solid plastic dowel inside the rod before you drill the hole for your armcup bolt and drill through the dowel as well.
This way, you won`t squish the carbon fibre out of round when you tighten the nut/bolt.
Although it is plenty strong, it often cracks when squished towards flat.
