Someone posted this on the Finders Forum and I liked it so much I thought I would put it up here too. The treasure we find is not always so obvious but it is treasure none-the-less.
Looking Back
I could have been rich if I'd wanted the gold
Instead of the friendships I've made
I might have had fame if I'd wanted renown
Instead of the hours I played
Now I'm standing today on the far side of life
And just looking backward to see
What I've done with the years and days that were mine
And of all that has happened to me.
I haven't left much of a fortune
To those who shall carry my name
And nothing I've done, shall entitle me here
To a place on a tablet of fame
But I've loved the great sky and it's colour of blue
And I've lived with birds and the trees
I wouldn't swap all the silver and gold
To share such pleasures as these.
I've given my time to the children that come
Together we romped and we played
And I couldn't recall the glad hours I've spent
For the money that might have been made
I chose to be known and loved by a few
And was deaf to plaudits of men
I'd make the same choice if the chance came to me
To live my life over again.
I've lived with my friends, shared in their joys
Known sorrow with all of it's tears
I've harvested much from my acres of life
Though some say I've wasted my years
But much that is fine has been mine to enjoy
And I'm sure I have lived to my best,
So I have no regrets as I'm nearing the end
For the gold that I might have possessed.
