Looking at the 14" excellerator coil for my MXT/ anyone have experience with this coil??

Hey Scott. I bought one a year or two ago and was not impressed with it at all. Used it a few times and put it away. I'd rather use the stock 9.5 coil than that one....... Gene

The 14" excellerator will cover a lot of ground due to it's size that's all the benefit you will find from this coil. It's very unstable, gets less depth than the stock coil. If you want depth and stability go with the 1400 deep scan or the Hot Shot from Jimmy Sierra. You are using a quality detector then it makes sense to use a quality coil. Just my two cents.

The 1400 deep scan by Whites is a very good coil. Very Stable, covers allot of ground, pinpoints well, and has depth about the same as the 9.5 eclipse. It also separates targets well when they are close together, just work the targets from different angles. Kept getting a quarter rereading in a cluster of tabs and sure enough, 5" down or so thar she was. And too for a big coil it will still read the wee tiny stuff. I kept getting a 00 reading, possible gold chain and couldn't find the target. Finally found it was a straightened out bread tie wire. The gold chain will be next.

bought a new one from Richardntn on here! seems like a great guy! can't wait for the darn snow to melt now (about 6 inches fell last night). that figures, heck it's been reasonably warm all winter so far around here so it has to snow when you want to get out to detect!!
thanks again for the input,
Scott

Your welcome Scott, I put mine on an old hip mount kit bought in the 70's from Whites. Can swing it all day without tiring. I mount the MXT control housing high on my side with an over the shoulder strap. I put one zip tie through the strap slot on the arm cuff and make a loop and another one around the rod shaft in front then hook the strap to them. You can also hook up a waist strap to go with the shoulder strap if you want. It works good for me.

Hey Mike, the hip mount you used, is it the one that was orig. for the xlt?
I looked at a set up (i think someone had a it for sale on ebay)and wondered about how well it would work for me. I am fairly new to metal detecting, I tried it some years back and gave up due to a major injury and a cheap &%^ detector that couldn't find a penny 2 inches down on a good day!!, then a year ago I really decided to get into it for therapy and spent the money for a good MDer, a Excalibur- since I have bought my MXT and gotten rid of the Excal(great machine if you do a lot of water detecting) and now I also have a XLT spectrum that I just got - now I have to figure it out- should be a fun spring ! So where are you from, I'm in Waynesboro,PA near Gettysburg.
Scott
