Me agian folks...... I wanting to get a larger search coil for my MXT I like to cion and jewerly and relic hunt. I have the standerd 9.5 coil and a 4x6 Elcispe shooter DD. I see all the talk about the talk about the 6x10 coil but wondering if it is going to be much if any better than the 9.5 coil. I have look around on the NET and see so many to choose from and just don't know what to do. What do you all think about the 12" concentric coil HOT SHOT, Eclispe DD 10x14, or a 14"Excelerator search coil. Or is there something better than these that I don't Know about?

Go to kellycodetectors.com and click the excellerator coils link. It has a nice diagram with an overview of the ranges of different size coils......chumline

You didn't say where you would be hunting? To use a bigger coil you need to be hunting in a trash free area. A bigger coil in cluttered areas will not work because it will have too many targets under it at one time.

The 6x10 is a DD coil your 9.5 is a concentric. In good ground the 6x10 is not deeper than the 9.5. It does have better side to side target separation. In mineralized ground the 6x10 would be better. I use mine when I don't need maximum depth. I like the 6x10 but not because it is deeper.

I've got two excelerator coils, the 5" and 8" coils. The 5" finds coins in the very trashiest areas and the 8" is as deep as my 9.5. I like them both but take depth claims on sites with a grain of salt. Rob

I use my 6x9 almost exclusively some times I will find a trashy area and change to the 3x6 until i am out of it. The reason for my coils are the type of detecting (beach) and parks. I coin pop in the parks so I really don't have a need for going deep and the 6x10 works better in mineralized sand on the beach. If you going to do relic hunting it seems your going to need a bigger coil to go deep. i have heard the 14" Excelerator coil has been pretty good. I am curious to hear about the 9x14 dd eclipse my self.

Good Luck

I think Rob pretty much said it all.

I get about 7inches on a target and sometimes deeper if its a larger target than a coin.
Its good on trashy areas meaning its good on seperation of target from trash.

Any INPUT on the other three coils I mentioned 12" HOT SHOT
10X14 DD
14" EXCEL

I'm betting all those are #1 heavy and #2 very poor in trash.

Jimw1957 you got your sizes all wrong brutha haha. The only one you got right is the 14". Anyways I have the stock 950, the whties 6x10dd and just bought a 14" E2 Excelerator. 950 is decent all around. DD coil for highly mineralized soil and trash and I'm going to use the 14" for the fields I hunt.

Thanks Manganos there are so many coils out there even White's makes a mistake (page 13 of their accessory guide) I always thought it was a 4x6 but i just remember seeing 3x6 i don't know where I got the 6x9. One thing for sure though the 9x14 dd is heavy.
