He and his kids found three large cents, this is the best one. This happened a couple of years ago and he let me borrow it to take pics and post. It was his second oldest girls graduation party today and he brought it out to show to me.

Why can't I find something like that. Maybe it's because theres a plowed field behind his yard.
HH everybody

Probably it's more like because there was something THERE a long time ago - where today there is only a yard and plowed field. Do a little research and get permission to hunt that field.

Like Dahut says, it's pretty much all location..
Never know who was around a certain place years go.
Around my yard, the chances of finding something like
that are slim to nil...:( Why? All the land here was
basically ricefields, etc, before it was transformed
into shiny little boxes in about 1959-60.. So about the
only way I'd find something , is if a rancher dropped it
while on his horse, or a farmer dropped it while messing
with his crops..
Most farmers back then didn't lose money very often..
But if I were to go farther into town, where people
have lived steady for over 100+ years, my chances would
jump drastically. You want to hunt the places where people
lived in the time they would have dropped it..
And places where people gathered in large numbers are
always prime time. Of course, most old parks have already
been picked to death..But hardly no one ever finds it all..
So it's always worth a 567th try to see whether a park is
tapped out or not. :)At least, there is always fresh clad
dropped..

but this guy may plant winter wheat and wanting to sue if he loses some crops. So much for kindly farmer Brown. Bob is somewhat of a history buff and said there was supposed to have been a grain mill somewhere in the area. The only water near there is a creek about a quarter of a mile away but wouldn't have enough water to turn a wheel. When I read a history book of the county it said the residents had to go to another county to get it ground. The first city to be incorporated here was in 1830.The mayor wore a coonskin hat and leather breeches. The county had to be cleared of trees for farmland. At one time there were black bear, cougar, elk, American Bison, bobcat, deer and willife galore. There was a story about a guy that went out and caught pike in the biggest river here. Now there are fish in there that have cancerous lessions down river from the refinery and chemical plant. The EPA has assured us that the don't pollute. Boy is that a relief to know. At around the turn of the last century there were oil wells and eight steam train lines plus five electric train lines in the county. They estimated that 225,000 tons of goods went through here a day. Wild isn't it. We've had so many plant closings around here that about the only jobs available here now is Wally World and Mickey Dee's.
I told you it was long.

I have found 2 of those in the past week. So far I havent been able to get them clean enough for a date to show.
Nice finds. HH
Steve
