Look Out...It's a COIN FLOOD!!

I spent a few hours yesterday and today along the creek in the downtown area. Found a few pieces of clad, then hit a stretch (about 20 feet) of the embankment that was just peppered with coins. I've pulled 134 out so far, and it seems like there are quite a few more, just ran out of daylight. Can't figure how they came to be there, but I don't mind. Nothing old, mostly 70s & up, lots of rotten Zincolns, but the take is at $7.99 so far, and I found one Sterling religious medallion that I'm pleased with. I also found a little key that I like, it says "The New Milennium" on it. The broken spoon was silver plated, found it in the creek, maybe left over from the c1900 floods. Lots of targets in there, but saving that for a nice 80 degree day! As I was sliding down the slope & digging, I was picturing the capricious gods looking down on me and laughing, saying "let's see how hard William will work for some corroded pennies".

Trivia: The log cabin that was Billy the Kid's (Henry Antrim) childhood home was just about where I was digging. He did his first jail time here. They've built a replica and put it at the visitor's center, about a half block from here.

Looks like a fun place to hunt ! Keep going back, there is something good buried there I bet !

Looks like you're working for that stuff . Good stuff William

Wow, nice clad haul!:clapping: Congrats on the silver!:beers: Cool finds!
Any gold in that creek?:wiggle:
Happy Hunting!:)

Thanks, metalhead. Definitely gold in the area, the first gold strike around here was up in Pinos Altos (semi-ghost), 6 miles North. I met a young guy who said he pulled a nugget out of the creek right on this stretch - and he was panning!

William, Good finds, Look Like a good spot?? I just got a AT-Pro i Love it !!!!!! My Whits 6000 XL-Pro mite get a rest???
GOOOD STUUFF MAANN, Mickfin

Dadgum, that's a bunch of coins...and a nice silver religeous medallion too!! Thanx for the area pics too, always like to see those!!

Thats a boat load of coins and stuff. Looked like a fun day. New Mexico is where I started treasure hunting way back when, mostly Las Cruces and Albuquerque.

William,
That looks like an awesome place to hunt. Thanks for posting the pics. I went out to a similar looking site around here and discovered pretty quickly that it was an old dump. LOL

Thanks, guys!
Togamac: yep, the dump here was a couple blocks further down the creek, and it looks like they used garbage and just about anything for fill after the floods and even recently, based on what I'm digging. I'm saving the trashiest part until I can swing a 5 x 8 coil!

Very cool site...Everything has to settle there in that area...Should be some interesting stuff...

HH,

My explaination, at least in Edmonton, is that they are left over from beggers, who beg for $$$. They go off to a secluded spot and sort through the change, leaving the pennies behind.

Good job! I love seeing finds from a fellow New Mexican. Where abouts are you located? i'm up in Santa Fe.

Hi JackDev!
I'm in Silver City. Give me a shout if you're ever in the mood for a road trip!
