Look At What The Cat Just Drug In

I've been in the market for a good used Tesoro uMax, because I've got a bad elbow and need something super light to swing as a back-up detector. Well, I went to take a look a this Whites IDX Pro just out of curiosity. It's really light and well balanced, but just a tad too heavy for my bad elbow. It looked just like it came out the box. MINT condition. I was told it was only used a of couple times. It was so purrrrdy, I wanted to take it home with me. When I got home I tested it on a quarter. It give a positive ID at 9 1/2 inches and a repeatable beep at around 10-11 inches. This detector sure locks on to a target and IDs well.

Does anyone here use a Whites IDX Pro?

I bought on of those last faff with Mr Bill's mode.
Never got to use it yet winter beat me but the mode are suppose to get it down a few more inches.
That unit looks minty.
Quite a few guys post on here about this detector.
Was some post about it a while back.just go back down !

Looks like you lucked into a good one there tabman:thumbup:

In my opinion, the IDX Pro is White's best kept secret. I found out about the IDX Pro 4 years ago by reading the posts about it on this forum. One poster in particular on this forum that impressed me the most was Monte. I read everything he wrote about the IDX Pro, and he was not stretching or hyping a thing about this detector.I bought one in late 2007, gave it a couple of hundred hours of use, and came to the conclussion that he was right. This detector has lightning quick responce time and recovery speed, it will pick out good signals in the trashy areas with precision. If you only buy one accessory coil for the IDX Pro, get the 5.3 BullsEye coil (6&1/2 inch) for it, it will get about the same depth as the stock 950 and picks through the trash much better. The little 5.3 coil will also make the detector better balanced and feel much lighter in the hand. I had gone through an XLT and then a DFX and then bought the IDX Pro, let me tell you, I ain't parting with my IDX Pro, It is that impressive.

Yeah the 6 1/2" coil sounds like it's about right size. Just playing around with it in the yard, it does seem to have a quick response. I'm not sure if the pinpoint feature is necessary or not. Is the BullsEye coil concentric?

Yes tabman it is concetric.

Also the BM 600 or the 5.3 Black Max coil will work, these can be picked up used on the classifieds for little money.......if you look around.

I recently got a used IDX(put a couple threads on here about it), and I am very impressed with it. I've owned some top-of-the-line White's machines, but the simplicity and "no bull" of the IDX will probably make it my favorite. I think you will like yours, too.

I certainly hope it works OK with my new Swingy Thingy. I've got a bad elbow and I like to swing all day long. I had in mind getting a super light 2.2 lb. Tesoro. I will find out if I can keep it or not in the next few days if the rain ever stops.

[size=large]how about listing your state or location on your signature. then when you say it's raining the reader knows where it's raining?

The Tesoros are good machines, too. I own 3 of them, but the visual ID is something I've been missing for years, so the IDX fills that "void".

I feel the White's IDX Pro is still in a lighter-weight, better-balanced category. Not only that, but the IDX Pro (and the non-display Classic III SL) is a very versatile detector that can produce impressive depths, doesn't require a fast sweep speed, deals with pesky bottle caps rather well, and can really shine when it comes to flat out finding stuff!

For those who can't tell, I really like the IDX Pro. The stock 950 coil can be handy if you are working a wide-open, sparse-target site, such as a beach, plowed field, desert wasteland, or the middle of a big sports field. As mentioned below by those who know and love this model, a 6

Monte since you speak so highly of this detector, I'm reluctant to take this black beauty wall hanger out in the mud and get her dirty.:)

I figured when I bought this detector, if it turns out too heavy for my bad elbow, it would make a good trade item for a lighter Tesoro uMax.

I can't wait for it to clear up so I can take it out for a test run at local park.

I'm going to tape some Visqueen plastic to the control box, because I don't want to be the first to put a scratch on it.

Well I hit the park today with my new IDX Pro. First let me say that the Swingy Thingy I bought for it did not live up to my expectations. It hindered my style of digging and was only a little help for my bad elbow. What a bummer!

On a bright note:), the IDX Pro preformed nearly flawlessly. It was nailing coins left and right. The ID was spot on most of the time. I cranked up the sensitivity to 100% and it ran smoothly without any chatter at all (Monte knows his chit). After I got use to the pinpoint feature, it was dead on. I felt like the ground balance might be a little too positive for my soil, so I gave it a few pumps in the all metal mode and the pitch did rise just a little. I also noticed that you don't have to have a fast swing for the detector to work properly. Overall, I'd have to say this detector more than deserves the high praise it receives in reviews. It's smooth running and dependable. It looks as good as it operates. I'm going to give it some time to see it I can handle the weight. I really like it a lot!

So what is a good price for this detector? Years ago I had a Classic III and just loved they way it ran. I looked on Kellyco and they don't even list it anymore. What did they sell for new?

I saw a IDX Pro today on eBay go for $340 + $21 shipping. The MSRP is $549.

The IDX Pro runs silky smooth in ground laden with pry caps. It sent my Gold Bug Pro with its 11" DD coil running for the car when I hit a park loaded with trash and pry caps. The IDX Pro walked right through the pry caps and trash finding coins left and right. It's a workhorse and I really enjoy using it. It's a smooth operator.

I didn't expect this. I just did myself a coin garden and did some testing in it. The IDX Pro with its 9 1/2" coil goes deeper and IDs a lot better than my x-Terra 305 with a 8" coil and the Gold Bug Pro with a 11" DD coil on quarters buried 6, 7, & 8 inches. Go figure.

tabman, the IDX Pro is awsome:thumbup:

I've got a couple of hundred hours on mine, and it continues to amaze me, and I have run some proven deep seekers like the CZ5 and Explorer ll. Here awhile back I was hunting the lawn of an old victorian house and got a deep soft signal and the pinpont audio had a weak tone also. I looked at the meter and it indicated zinc penny, I told the home owner that it was probably an old indian head penny. And darned if it was'nt.......and over seven inches deep.......and with the 5.3 BlackMax coil to boot. Accuracy and depth, I'm a believer......Thanks Monte for all the articles you have written about this great detector!

Simply amazing. I went over a small area at least a half dozens times with one of my other detectors several days ago and dug 3 silver rings and a 1968 Kennedy half dollar. Today I went back over the same small area with the IDX Pro and found 2 more silver rings. One is stamped sterling and the other 92.5. They both rang up as dimes and were about 3-4 inches deep.

Well, I've finally made up my mind. Even though the Whites IDX Pro is a light and well balanced detector, it's just a tad too heavy for my bad elbow.

I'm going to sell it.

I was hoping the Swingy Thingy would do the trick, but it didn't.

I'm going to sell it also.

It looks like I'm going to be swinging a Tesoro uMax most of the time. :detecting:

Tell me tabman

Did you ever try the 6 & 1/2 coil on your IDX ? that little coil lightens up the load, and makes for a better balanced set up. Also another trick is to shorten the coil rod.....where the coil swing is just a few inches in front of your feet as you take slow sweeps and slow walk with the IDX. Do what you will, but I think you will miss the IDX Pro, I also have a Tesoro Bandido ll
