LOOK! a good pair of 32Ohm headphones for the Sovereign GT

JASONSPAZ1

New member
According to Minelab a pair of headphones with 32 Ohms is what is needed for the Sovereign GT.
I think these Garrett's will fit the bill just fine. Coiled cord, volume control, lightweight.
looks good.

Price: $24.95
Item Number: 1612700
Manufacturer: Garrett
Manufacturer Part No: 1612700

Never used nothing but the Jolly Roger, works fine with my Sovereign and they sure have held up going on 7 years with no problems guess you get what you pay for:thumbup:

Are the Jolly Rogers 32Ohms? I have a nice set of Killer B's that are built like the Sovereign. However, at a 150 Ohms I find that Silver does not sound as sweet as they do with a pair of headphones that are 32Ohms.

Any one have an opinion on Gray Ghost with limiter and how they work on Sov GT when it blast a close target?

I use Grey Ghost ultimates with my Minelabs but neither is a Soveriegn. Killer Bs also work very good on MLs. As long as you can hear those low faint signals use whatever you feel comfortable with. HH :minelab:

The Gray Ghosts seem to limit the entire hearing range , not just the blasts ......It quiets down ALL the audio not just the blasts ......The limitter setup that controls the blasts only is in the SunRays .......See if you can check them out first ....Jim

sinthnut my GG ultimates does'nt limit anything unless I press the button. My Killer Bs also has a limiter switch that flips in and out as does the Pro Golds. They work really well if your coil goes across a shallow big target and there is a lot of trash. It would be better if he could try them first. I tried everything and preferred the GG ultimates even over the Pro-Golds. Now the Killer Bs work better with my G-2. HH :minelab:

Hershey 1,
YES , I should have clarified "When you put the limitter on " with either sets of phones .........The G.G.'s limitted the entire audio , not just the blasts , with the limitter switch "on" .......The Sunrays limitted the blasts only with the limitter swtich "on " ......If I could have to tone of the GG's , and the limitter circuit of the SunRays , and the volume of my Sony's , I would be happy .....Jim

Hey , nothings EVER perfect !!.....Jim

Synthvnut,
It looks like a winter project, call it FrankenPhones, or PhoneStiens. Only problem is you need 3 sets of phones to make one.

You will figure it out though.

The Grey Ghosts were as flat as a tin can to me on my GT. The $20 Sonys have MUCH better audio details.

The $20 Sonys have really helped me out with identifying tones, especially the "threshold" tone. The "notes" (of the threshold) of gold, nickels, pull tabs sound like a harmonica... and silver, dimes, pennies and quarters sound higher and less course to me. I'm still just learning and, at the beach, I dig about everything and also the sound changes as I get closer or move the target. I would like to quiet down the Sonys a little by putting some foam or neoprene inside em. Any suggestions on the best material for this?
Thanks for all the great info folks
Jim

Here's the elements out of the cheapo Sony phones ($20) slapped into a pair of MUCHO ISOLATED Peltor 105's ($20 ) ..... SO, Hershey 1, they come with an adapter so I cna listen to my iPod , or I can plug them into my Sovereign and get the most isolated , wonderful , loud , tone that I have not gotten from ANY of the OVER $100 phones yet !!.... YMMV ...Jim
