Lonely silver shoe buckle yesterday

Got out to a field yesterday, the one next to the field I found the 1918 Liberty half a week or two ago. The only good thing I found was this awesome condition silver shoe buckle. About an inch long but in kickin' condition. Even though it was the only quality find for the day, I am very happy with it.

Anyone have a resource on these buckles for information? Thanks for looking.

You're right. That buckle is in fantastic condition!!! I'm glad you posted it for us.

SWEET find!!! I would take that any day!!

That is one nice buckle but it is a buckle for breeches/hat and not a shoe buckle. Almost always when the spindle is mounted lengthwise the buckle is a knee (breeches) or hat buckle. Shoe buckles the spindle is mounted across the width. Most likley late 1700s for age. According to the website, it also might be a hat buckle instead of for breeches(lack of a chape) If it were in my collection it would be called a knee buckle. :)
