thinking about buying a lone star from a guy says its new asking 150.oo I was just wondering about the machine and performance

Lone star is good, but the price is a little steep, figure about that much for a new one. You might want to consider something with depth indication for not much more than that.

I have an Elite 2200 which is the same as the Discovery 2200. It has four tones, nine IDs and depth. (0-9") adjustable sensitivity, adjustable discrimination and notching abilities. It is super light weight, has a large and easy to read display and all the controls can be operated with the hand attached to the arm the person is using to swing. In other words, one handed operation. I also have a Pioneer 2200 but VASTLY prefer the Elite 2200.

I got the Elite 2200 for $139.99 New and with the coupon from BH paid another $15 and got a Bounty Hunter Jr. delivered to my house. I got the Elite 2200 at Big Five Sporting Goods.

I believe that every 2200 owner will tell you what a superb machine they are.

I have to agree with Mark. I found a discovery 2200 on craigslist for $50, and bought it just because... after using it, I almost always reach for it now. I don't think it goes as deep as my Landstar, but it goes plenty deep for most coins. To make things even better, there is really nothing to adjust other than the sensitivity. To disc out a target, you just wave over it and hit the zap button... can't get much easier than that. It's a coin magnet. I have found probably 400 coins with it in the last 2 weeks. I think my landstar is getting mad about the whole situation!

I use the lone star as my main detector, and I've been quite happy with it. Its great on coins, and a good value. I do agree $150 is a bit high for a unit not being sold by a dealer; for that price, you could buy new from a retailer. Try amazon.com or kellyco: they sell new for around $150 in these places, and some packages include freebies (like a pinpointer). Hope this helps, abcoin.
