Found this at an old mill site. It is about this size of a thimble and ID's in the zinc range. Would be interested in finding out whose logo is stamped on it and what it was used for. Thanks

Is the small hole threaded and is the wide opening threaded? If neither, it could be a vent cap(steam vent or oil can vent) or vented oiler cap. The small hole could be for a chain to prevent losing the cap and keep it tethered to the item.

It could be a chatelaine, other names are needle case or sewing kit case. Some are fancy, some not. Many slip together without threads similar to lipstick cases but they commonly have a hole like your piece.

Neither end is threaded. Thanks
