Spotted this locomotive at the local railroad yard. Not knowing what railroad it might be, I did some research on the Internet. I discovered that this locomotive did not belong to a railroad, but was owned by the Helm Financial Corporation based at San Francisco, California. The Helm Financial Corporation is a leasing company with a fleet of 850 locomotives and 22,000 railroad cars. I do not know what railroad is leasing this locomotive, possibly the Union Pacific Railroad, but that is pure speculation on my part.
This locomotive is a model EMD GP38-2 that was built in 1978. While researching on the Internet, I was able to discover some of the history associated with this Locomotive. On July 31, 2004, it was located in DuBois, Pa. On February 16, 2005 it was located at East Saint Louis, IL. On June 19, 2005 it was located at New Castle Junction, Pa. On April 2, 2008 it was located at Knippa, Tx. On March 4, 2011 it was located at Fort Worth, Tx. On June 2, 2011 it was located at Hearne, Tx. On April 21, 2012 it was located at Houston, Tx. On August 13, 2013 it was located at McQueeney, Tx. It is now located in San Antonio, but I do not know when it arrived here or who it is leased to. It would be great if this locomotive could talk and tell us a few stories.
I almost did not stop to take this picture because it was a foggy, wet day with on and off light drizzle, dark grey over cast sky. Now that I know some of the history of Locomotive HLCX 3824, I am glad that I took the time to take the picture.
This picture was taken with a Sony A200 DSLR camera using a Sony 75-300mm kit lens, F7.1, 1/100, ISO 100, Manual Mode. Kelley (Texas)
