Locking on

Rob (IL)

New member
Recently I've been reading some of the newer people talking about not being able to lock on a VDI. Remember the MXT doesn't average the readings like some detectors. Each swing gives you a new reading hence it might seem like a more jumpy VDI. After a while you learn not to notice it. Rob

I noticed that the first day I used mine last fall. After a while, like you say, didn't pay much attention. Using the VDI as a guide, but going more by sound atm.

I am still getting used to the "chattiness" of the MXT, been spoiled by the smoother running IDX.

But, I'm perservering, and this first week, have been hunting in the Relic Mode, and pushing the gain to +2 with the D2 coil. Running the gain higher sure increases the "volume" of the deeper and smaller hits.

Am amazed at how well it picks up tiny pieces of metal and foil, oy vay! Still digging lot's of trash, and will continue to until I become more confident in what the MXT is telling me.

Very well said Rob!
HH to all, Nancy

Here's another thing for the newer people with iffy readings. Your MXT will give you the most accurate reading when the coil is centered right over the target. After you get a hit, pinpoint the target by pulling the trigger. After you have it pinpointed make one more pass over the spot I will be the most accurate reading.

Also for those hits and then an empty hole. I had a half a dozen hits today and then dug and no coin. What happens is I lost the coin when passing a hand full of dirt over the coil looking for the coin or it got flipped out with some dirt. A quick pass with the coil will find it in the grass close to the hole. Rob
