Lock Handle Broke!!

unearth

Member
All CTX owners take note...a friend of mine was putting his CTX together this morning when, "uh oh", oh sh@t, the lower rod 'lock' handle broke off!! Broke off right into his hand! I'm pretty sure Minelab will take care of the problem, but, what a bummer. The whole upper unit has to be sent in for repair or replacement:rage:

unearth - do you have a photo or two you can share that shows where the break was?

While mine did not break off, it no longer held the lower shaft from spinning! It held it from sliding out or back in but it aloud the shaft to spin. There is no adjustment for that clamp and it will continue to ware to the point of not working. My machine is out for repairs for that and the shaft waring through the carbon firbre. This failed at about the 250 hour mark????

Yes. As soon as I get my camera working. It broke right at the two "hinge" points.

I was thinking of buying one of the new 3030's but i just don't know, they are having more problems than just the lower locking handle. i mean the list go's on and on. what do you guy's think maybe give the detector another year so they can work all the bug's out.....

Just got my CTX a few says ago and I thought that lock was alot of stress on a small piece if plastic but mine is fine so far. I've been following the forum awhile and this is the first I've heard of it.

I've decided to hold off on purchasing one until some improvements are made. I really like the features that the detector appears to offer, but the durability just does not appear to be there. I know Minelab is fixing machines that need service, but if I'm going to spend $2500+ on a new detector I would expect that it can make it through at least one full season without needing repairs.

ZOFCHAK, i am with you on this one. i hope for the money that they fix all the things that are wrong with it so that the customer doe's not have to send it back a dozen times before it's fixed. i was really thinking about buying one but i think i may hold off for another year. i guess it's like the old saying go's first year worst year. ''LOL''.

There will always be a few examples of any new model of about anything that will break or not function 100%. This new machine is cutting edge technology and the few problems posted are actually far and few between and have all been taken care of in a very timely manner by Minelab so not sure what all the talk about waiting a year if you are truly considering getting one.

I have always found that sitting on the fence is not very comfortable or productive for that matter LOL.I got a first release "first year" E-Trac and found over 500 silver with it in the 3-1/2 years I hunted with it with zero issues.Waiting a year would have been very counter productive in my case.

Considering how many hundreds of thousands of consumer products are recalled every year the modern detectors are rock solid from all the major manufacturers by comparison in my opinion
