Location of finds.

I do not know if it is a breach of protocol, but I would appreciate it that when people post pictures of their finds, that they include at least the state or nearby city (if in the U.S.) they are in, so one could judge what might be found in the area where one hunts and the condition of some of the objects that are found with relationship to soil and weather conditions. I am not asking people to give away there best spots, just an area of the country! I live in N.C. where the soil is acidic clay, so most of the coins I find if not nickel or silver can be pretty corroded and not very old. Just a thought, so I can gauge what to expect from hunting in different locales.

Some people do, but as you eluded to, some people really don't care for the competition and the things they they are finding....other than jewelry or clad coins, are not replenishing themselves. I can understand your desire to use it as a litmus test, but I'm not sure there is an easy button for what you are asking about. Good luck.

I do not mind sharing with but some time it is better to keep quite on a public forum. In 1994 I found 63 rings (18 gold,26 silver, and the rest junk)from a lake in my area, I made the mistake of telling some one that belonged to a club in my area. the next year I found only 4 rings from the same spot. I found out later that he had brought 20 club members to my spot and did not even bother to ask me if I wanted to go! :ranting:

Good question. Narrowing the location by State or general locality like "N.W. part of Montana" is not giving away any hot spot for sure. We are talking about a few hundred miles of coverage and noting the type of soil would be great too.
For example, I've read many opinions regarding switching coils on the Silver U-Max. Some say you need to send the coil in to Tesoro to have it tuned. This does not have to be done here. Most of us here in N.W. Nevada (Ely) could care less about ground balance or tuning coils since the soil conditions are ideal for a preset g.b. machine. I learned this from a Minelab rep. I had purchased a Minelab SD2100. I couldn't hear any sound when trying to ground balance it. I was concerned since I wanted to head for the gold fields in Winnamucca. He laughed and said if you want to get picky, hold the coil in the air and point it to Nellis A.F. base, 250 miles away. I waited for the punch line. It never came. He was dead serious. He explained that Nellis sends out powerful radio waves and the P.I. machine would pick them up. I could get precise g.b. using this method. Short of that, he said to not even worry about it. The SD2100 would work just fine wherever I went in Nevada. Now, if I wanted to go to Arizona, I too would like to hear about the soil conditions and general location before I went. I might have an excuse to by the Outlaw!!!
Right now I am pretty well covered with the Silver & the Lobo.

Homebre,

While I'm not worried about you, there have been people who have used these forums to find other people's hunting spots.

It has happened more than once.

The most I'll say is "a park" or "private property" or "a Florida beach".

Thats about it.

My general location is in my signature line,

....I don't post finds because I can't get pictures of my finds posted (never Happened if there's no Pics)... without the help of my oldest son. I'm a nimble 61 years young.... "old fart" who loves to detect, I just ain't got the computer smarts enough to get pics posted, maybe one these days my son will show 'ol Dad how it's done.

Hey Claddog. I know what you mean. I just wish people would tell me a location Like part of the country I do not care what city.
I'd be happy with just a state. and if your water hunting or land hunting.
I know that guys hunting water tend to find more gold rings and such.
And guys in the older states find more silver.
And that is just a generalization.

I never thought much of it, as least as it pertains to metal detecting, but lots of phones and cameras now embed gps coordinates in the exif data of the photo.... use an exif stripping photo program if you don't want that information out..... irfanview has that feature and they probably all do, but thats the one i'm familiar with.

I made the mistake of putting the fish lake beach on video and metal detecting it , and had the club come out , wich does not bother me it was fun , but somone seen it and came out with a shovle and dug the hole park up and left the hole open and half filled , and they straight way banned metal detecting , it was the only beach i had to hunt and i just loved hunting thear now its gone so keep it to yourself , and trusted frends and dig neet holes or you will be detecting in your back yard.
