Local sports stadium

MrGee

New member
I while back I mentioned in a post that I hoped to get permission to detect the local sports stadium. It was opened in 1936 and there has been about 100 baseball games a year every year since then. It was also the home of the local high school football team until about 8 or 9 years ago when they build the new HS. There is a project scheduled for this fall to redo the playing field and since it's going to be torn up anyway it seemed as if there would be no reason for Parks and Rec to say no. So guess what - they said no. The Parks director gave me a sort of run around...we'll let you know...our plans aren't firmed up yet...etc. but I do recognize a brush off when I hear one. I'm not very happy.

Keep track of things (the work), consider going-over his head, speak to the Mayors office...offer to donate a find or 2 which could be displayed as "history" of the field, tell him there may be a class ring or 6 buried out there & you'd want to return them to their proper owners. Ask if they're stripping the sod, either way explain you don't recover with a backhoe and you're adamant about leaving an area in better condition tan you found it.

Good Luck!

I did talk to the ladies at the local museum and they expressed a strong interest in seeing what might be out there. I told them that if I found anything identifiable like class rings that I would call on them to help track down the owner and they agreed that they would be glad to help. Can't talk to any city officials right now though. We had a storm run through Friday afternoon that they claim took down over 1000 trees in town...and this is a small town. So right now, every city employee is really busy with that. Maybe in a week or so they'll have a handle on the damages.

They may be taking soil from the site so follow the trucks! Better yet tell them they can spread it around on your property for free!
