Local sentenced for excavation of archaeological resources

:usmc:

This was back home where I grew up and lived a number of years. I do not know the person involved but have heard of the last name before. I also had no idea Wood Canyon had any known archaeological sites as I have big game hunted there, snow machined, dirt biked, and even when a teen, worked on a ranch who's owner has a homestead up near there we fixed fence on.

It does not appear this person had a metal detector but the story is as applicable to those who do and detect on Federal and State lands. We did years ago, have a Californian who came to town and he was caught raiding Indian sites out on the desert and selling what he found.

This was in the local Arco paper this last week.
