I just bought my first Tesero ,what luck too..got a second chance offer on ebay.
now I just got to learn how to use it. Can you guys give me a little input...please.
how do you work the discriminate mode, and threshhold mode...stuff like that.
the last detector I had was fully automatic. :help:

Hi,

DISCRIMINATION:

I have a LST and very happy with it, I have mainly used it as a coin-shooter although it's main calling is as a prospecting unit, this is where this unit really excels.

That said, it has a very good discimination ability for a prospecting unit. When in discriminate mode the Ground Balance (GB) is "hard wired" to a factory pre-set, so you don't have to worry about GB. What what you should do first is to beg/borrow/steal a hand full of coins that you expect to find and wave each one in front of the coil and keep increasing the Disc until it is discriminated out.....then write down the setting. In the end you will end up with a list of coins with what position they discriminate at, this allows you to set your disc setting so you don't miss any wanted targets.

In Australia our lowest conductivity coin in the modern 5c, it nulls out at around 3. Gold jewellery and all other Australian decimal and pre-decimal coins are 3 and up, a "coin and Jewellery mode" if you like. I just throw down a 5c, set the disc to just accept the 5c and off I go. If you set disc to about 2 you will reject all iron accept large pieces.

If I'm in a very trashy site I'll bump the disc up to 6, you will miss gold jewellery, 5c 10c 20c, but you will miss ring-pulls and a lot of trash items while still getting all the pre-decimal coins.....this is a 'coin only mode' if you like.

My point is that if you take the time to see what the different coins and jewellery disc out at, you can make an educated decision on where to set you disc on each site.

One good thing to practice is when you locate a good target, keep sweeping it while slowly increasing the disc setting and see where it nulls out. Where on the scale it nulls out will give you a rough idea of what you can expect to dig up based on the above list you made up. P.S don't forget to return the disc to the previous setting.

THRESHOLD:

in a nut shell is the 'background hum' you want to hear the hum so you don't miss any small/deep targets in all metal mode. Very important when prospecting so you catch the small gold, LST excels at finding the small stuff.

Ground Balance:

This is automatic on the LST in all-metal and pre-set in Disc mode. In all-metal find a spot with no signals and "pump" the coil 2-3 times, you'll hear the unit settle....you're done...go detecting.

Good luck
Greg

Just a quick one!

If you intened to use the LST primarily as a coin-shooter, consider getting a small concentric coil (6-inch I think). This allows you to seperate targets better than the standard elliptical coil in high trash areas, which means more coins. I don't have one myself but I have heard very positive reviews from the coin chases that have one on their LST.

Don't swing to fast, give the processor a chance to "interrogate" the targets, slow right down in the high trash areas, the LST can handle a slow swing. Just dig targets that are clear and repeatable in both directions to start with, don't bother with the "clipped" targets. If you aren't sure if a target is good or bad and your swinging in a east/west direction, switch to a north/south direction and this will confirm if it is good or bad. Pinpoint is excellent and even better with a concentric coil, you can use pinpoint to "size" a target, if it's long don't dig it......unless your a relic hunter but you get the idea.

But get out there and practice that is the most important thing, don't make any judgments until you have 10-15 hours under your belt. Once you work out what the audio is telling you, you won't look back.

Everyting I've told you is based on about 30hrs with the LST and I'm still on the learning curve....it's like any sport/hobby...you get better with practice.

enjoy your LST
