Lobo SuperTrak or Vaquero

Hello All
I have and love the Vaquero. I was thinking of trading for a Lobo my friend has. He brought it home from his winter in AZ. He is not to familiar with it bought it at a garage sale and used it twice. Would i be better with the depth of the Vaquero or is the Lobo Supertrack just as deep. Thank you.

I had Lobo ST for about 6 years. I have a Tejon now, it's about the same as the "V" and ST.
for depth. The ST. is a little heavier. Bigger box and coil is heavier. Not good on wet salt beach
but fresh water beach very good. Prospecting, ghost towns, trails, camps, and so on. But the
"V" is that plus coins and less weight. I loved the lobo ST. but it was putting on a little weight.
If you want your "V" to be like ST. get the 5X10 elliptical coil. It doesn't have holes in it. I use
it most of time. It works for me.

I believe the Vaq's manual ground balance is tied to both all metal and disc modes whereas the Lobo is preset in disc mode which may give the Vaq an edge at some detecting sites.

I believe Bill is right about the Ground balance on the "V" , and being lighter I think the V would be a better choice... unless you can stand the extra weigh,t it would probably be a fair swap if that wasn't a big issue with you. Personally I'd keep the "V".

I think the question you need to ask yourself is "do I want to prospect for gold ?" If the answer is yes then trade.

Now I have to ask is the Lobo ST better on gold than the Tejon? Ive never used the Lobo ST but I know the Tejon and V are great with it.

well now the Lobo is supposed to be a very capable relic detector as well as for gold prospecting... I don't think it is just for Gold prospecting.....

Thanks to all. I know this is not to scientific. Ground balanced. Both with their standard coils. Sensitivity set to 10. Well we took both detectors out into his yard and laid some gold rings and chains down we borrowed from the wife's. They started screaming when we were going to bury them. HE-HE. Any how The gold rings sing on both load and clear. Were the difference came in was on the small gold chains. The V would loose the chains anything over 2 on disc. If you turned disc to 0 it would find it but loose it after about 2-3in above it. If you ran the V in all metal it would sound off till about 3-4in with a fade in threshold. The Lobo on the other hand would take till about 3 in disc. and you could raise coil above to 4-5in. till it would loose it. In all metal it would sound off clearly till way above it 5-6in+. I do have a test garden at home with several coins planted 5+ years ago. We went there they both did find them all about the same. Nothing was buried over 6-7in 5years ago. I should try to bury something deeper. So in our none Sci. way they are equal on coins until we plant something deeper.
The lobo has a clear tone on the gold chain when the V would not. I do not know what the difference is in them for this. If you have any other ideas on test lets me know. Sadly My buddy is now wanting to keep his Lobo even that the V is much lighter weight for when he goes back.

The grass always looks greener over the septic tank. A word of advice, before swapping make sure it's what you really want. Nothing more pathetic than a guy who gets rid of one machine, gets another, and a month later laments he should have kept the first one. Sad.

I've owned quite a few Tesoro's over the years and traded or sold them for other models, but now I find myself with quite the collection (for different hunting situations) You're absolutely right though ........ make sure this is what you really want before swapping, I've been guilty of kicking myself about letting a certain detector go on more than one occasion. I still swap and sell detectors but I have my favorites that I like and will keep. If I had to sell all my detectors and keep one, it'd probably be my original Silver Sabre with threshold knob and pinpoint button. one of the best detectors they've put together (In my opinion) I'd have the 5.75 coil and the 9x8 coils, and that would be a decent all around package for me, if times got tough and I had to thin em out a little. (Until then I'm keepin em all)

Jay
