Lobo ST

Can anyone advise me, how does the Lobo depth when in discriminate mode compare to the Vaquero? I know that the manual gb is an advantage for the V, but I think I have read that in real use the Lobo still seemed to find small stuff a little deeper than the V even in discriminate mode. Anyone know?

Walnut I think the answer to your question really all depends upon the coil(stock vs. ?) used on the LST and what are the ground conditions...mild, moderate or heavy minerals since the LST has a preset GB while in discriminate mode. Having a preset ground balanced unit can work in a lot of different areas around the globe with little problems... but with a manually GB unit regardless of coil used you can "fine tune" to your specific ground conditions which can sometimes help with some targets and overall depth. Here in SE Texas my LST gets good depth in discriminate mode because of my mild ground conditions but my preference is to have control over all settings.

I recently got a Lobo ST and only have got to use it for about a half hour, I didn't do any measuring but seemed to get decent depth. FRom my understand the Lobo with the round brown concentric coil is a very good coin setup. For best depth and operation it should be sent to the Tesoro factory to be tuned/matched to the coil. Mr. Keith Southern has a youtube video of his Lobo hitting a 13 inch dime.

There is a good many detectors that have manual ground balance that really only effects the all-metal operations of the unit, either pinpoint mode or the all-metal operating mode.
With most detectors while in discrimination mode even at its lowest setting is still well above the mineral range, so they can get really good depth. The problem comes in when running a detector like this and you switch to the all-metal pin-point mode, without a ground balance the detector will give off a positive response to the ground. So, a preset ground balance can be used to cancel out at lest most of the minerals in average soil. But, the Lobo has a ground balance tracking in the all-metal search mode. So, I'm going to say that the way the Lobo is setup it should do very well on depth.

I've had a supertraq since 2004 and agree the brown doughnut. Is the go coil period.Better depth, target l.d etc.I have all the coils but 8" doughnut it.
