Lobo ST Questions

Guys I am not new to detecting but I am new to the Lobo ST. I landed a mint used one and I have read in the past that there are 3 ways to mount the control box. The only way the manual says anything about that I could find is on the shaft in front of the hand grip.

Then I can see there is a large belt clip on the bottom of control box, which needs no explanation.

But the third one that I have read about is that the control box can be mounted on the shaft between the arm cuff and the hand grip. I see that there are a couple of holes there but no push button to lock the control box in position. Does anybody know if the control was meant to be mounted in this location or is it somebody just used a screw and nut and mounted it there?
Also I noticed that the shaft mounting bracket looks to be on a slid plate mounted to the top of the control box housing. The battery cover looks to be a block to keep it in place. Just to see if it comes off I took the battery door off and tried to slide the bracket off. It didn’t budge, so does anybody out there know if it should come off that way?

never owned one so I am of little use.

how does the CB stay on down below the grip? is there holes there for it?

The pole mounting bracket on the LST control box does not slide off it is permanently affixed. You can mount the control box between the hand grip and arm-cuff for a better balance if you desire with no problem!

Although its not a factory suggested option but mounting the control box at the top of the rod is a very popular option as it makes the weight of the detector so much better, but of course everything is based on the length of the coil cable,if its the short cable then not 100% sure if it will reach the top of the rod,but if its the long cable that allows you to hip mount then of course it will reach the top of the rod.

I only have the stock 5x10WS coil that came with the detector so it has the long cable.

Also here is a couple of pictures of how the CB mounts in front of the hand grip area. Being I bought this machine used I don't know for sure but I will guess that the push pins are factory installed.

When i mounted my control box up higher i just drilled a hole through the shaft just under the armcup and rather than use the pin setup i used a nylon nut and bolt which does exactly the same thing as the pins, its only just to hold the control box in place and nothing else,so a nylon bolt does the job just 'fine and dandy'.

Also used the nylon nut and bolt method when i had my control box mounted on a straight carbon fibre shaft,in a few weeks time i will do the exact thing again to a Bandido and 7'' concetric coil, which i can swing all day long due to the weight saving of using the carbon shaft, these days i have to use much lighter machines due to wrist problems as a result of coming off a motor bike decades ago,and also the age related problems of getting older :)

Sounds like we are about the same with wrist problems. I just had surgery on my right wrist (swing arm) in January and they remove 3 of 7 bones in my wrist. I am doing a lot better now but a all day hunt is more than I can stand without a sling. I have been using a sling to add some hours to my hunt days. I know we all want to think we can swing a detector for 10 or 12 hours and did that back in the day, but now I am 67 and things are wearing out. I haven't hunted the Lobo yet but I rigged it for my sling the other night and it should take a couple of pounds off the Lobo.

If you would be interested in a sling I can sent some pictures and instructions, just let me know.

Hi Ron

I would be interested in learning how to make a sling. I actually bought one, but it broke after a month's use.

Also, I just bought a LOBO and placed my stock coil from my Cibola onto my LOBO. Not only did I obtain more depth, but I also felt my LOBO was balanced better.

Sincerely,

David Fedder

David,
Keep an eye out on this thread and I will post something on the sling here, I need to get a couple of new pictures.
Now that stock coil for your Cibola, would that be the spider type 9x8 concentric coil?

You will need an old shoulder strap off a carry bag and buy some bungee material and hooks, also some wire ties.
Not shown in the pictures but I would suggest adding another small strap in the front to hook to the belt or belt loop. Just thinking it would improve the original design and hold the sling in place on your chest when the detector is unhooked.

Also note that the key ring needs to attached with velcro at or near the base of each detector. That is the only place that is common to all detectors, so you can attach a ring on each of your detectors and the sling will work on all of them.
