Lobo ST found me a surprise

Took the Lobo ST to a school tot lot for about a half hour tonight, first time hitting this place since last season & first time using the Lobo ST there. I got a few clad coins and a little bitty piece of jewelry shaped like a star. Just before I was about to leave and I got this soft repeatable beep and kicked the woodchips away and I saw this dime size coin that didn't look like clad. I didn't have my reading glasses with me and had my son read off the date, he said it was 1941. I got home and looked it over closely and was surprised what it was. I have never seen one before and have no idea how this coin got there. This is not it but one just like it, it is a 1944 D PHILIPPINES 10 CENTAVOS WALKING LIBERTY COIN.

That 10 centovo coin was minted in the United States during the war in the Philippines. It was when America was stationed over their. They made other denominations coins also. It took 10 of them coins to make 1 peso. Back than 1 peso would buy you a pack of smokes or a beer. My wife and I live over their during the winter. I have a few of them. They also made that coin in silver. The sad thing is that they are not worth a bunch. Over their there just is not many colectors for old coins. When I find some at the market over their, I can jew the seller down to my price. Hope this helps a little. KEN. Ind.

Nice looking coin, WTG Steve !

That's cool, its always fun to find something different, especially with a new machine. I can remember the feeling when I found these nickel sized coins with holes in them, just something different, I think Spain but at first it is pretty wild wondering how that got there. Congrats on the coin, good luck with the Lobo.

Great job on the history ken. In my other little bit if spare time I enjoy collecting a few coins here and there. I stumbled on the coins minted during the years from 1940i-1944. Pretty awesome find skiwiz. Some people think it is silly to hunt tot lots and elementary schools. I don't think so. I have found some if my best finds there. hope you keep finding the good stuff. HH

cool find ! I find different coins such as those as well in parks and when I hunt around tot lots which is not very often , the way I figure they get there is the kiddos find Dads coin stash sometimes and sneak them out cause the are curious but then loose them while playing just my thought on it though!

Great find in the woodchip pile!
