After a number of ATX hunts in the last week - with multiple silver rings...finally took a drive up north to a beach I hunted last year. A great day to have off work and sneak away for some quiet time! There is a TON of sand on the beaches here at the moment so this was a lucky find a few scoops down...nice 10K mens band.

The ATX with the large coil works well at this beach, had the power almost all the way up. Unfortunately too rough for water hunting!

Thank you for the beach photos Dale!!

Wow! the sand on that beach is really coarse ... do all your beaches have very coarse sand or just that beach up north you went to?

I remember you saying the clay under your sand in the water is usually not very far down. What is the average depth of sand before you hit the clay bottom?

There is only one beach in SoCal that I have actually hit clay within the depth of a detector, so the gold and fishing sinkers can be very deep in the harder packed sand.

Keep the beach photos coming!! We like it :)

Depends on the beach this is an odd one. You can dig for miles and never find the bottom! I am sure there is a ton of stuff here but it is unreachable. Most beaches are finer sand. This one is very rocky and unusual. I think we have 3 or 4 local beaches where you can reach clay depending on the tides and sand movement. Could be 3 scoops down...on a good day. Last year some of those beaches became heavily eroded, with only inches of sand over hard clay. Hence a good season!
