Little Silver

Went on a morning hunt with a friend to a nearby town. We started at a school that I had never hunted before. The playground was fenced off and locked but the basketball court was open and there were some open fields behind the court and school. I started around the basketball court and dug a few clad coins in that area. I moved to the open area behind the basketball court and got a high tone reading 38 and jumping to 40 every now and then. The signal was not loud so I figured the coin was 5-6 deep. I dug down and turned over the flap and could see a silver rim. I retrieved the target and it was a 1964 D Rosie !!! We stayed a little longer before we moved locations to a vacant city lot. Didn't find much there and so we ended the hunt at the site of the 1st county fair. Got a nice zinc penny signal showing a solid 30 and sometimes a 32. Pulled two zincs from the hole, then 3, then several more until the roll stopped at 20. Only dug one other coin from that area and it was a 6-7 inch green eated up zinc. Here's a picture of my finds.

Sometimes it surprises me where/how that odd one piece of silver has managed to go unnoticed.

The two little one horse town nearest to me each have a park. This area is all farming, but it's also at an intersection of main county roads between two big collage towns. Because we are old towns, and perceived out of the way by city folks, our parks have been hammered by everyone for forty years. Finding anything besides recent drops is the challenge. Yet every year I still manage to find that one lone Rosie or Merc that has hidden up until then.

Congratulations on a good day made better!
IMO, silver at the end of the rainbow is almost as good as gold.

Gotta love just making it with those 64's. Silver is silver!

You are exactly right Longhair !! It is really weird how something turns up when you know it has had numerous coils over it. Honestly, the places that I hunt have been pounded so much by everyone withing 50 miles of here that those weird little finds keep me going when it comes to finding silver. I still enjoy a good clad hunt but that silver rim surprise is always nice.

That really sounds like fun pesc. Happy to hear you had a good time and a little silvy too!
