Little Joey.

Anybody used the coiltek little joey on the sovereign. What are they like on seperation, depth etc??Any opinions will be appreciated. Thanks guys.

From what little I've read on this coil there doesn't appear to be much excitement about it. Most seem to either go to the S-5 or Excelerator 5" for seperation, or the 8" coinsearch or new 8" Tornado, which both do well in trash from what I hear. I would like to see Kellyco offer one of the small (4x6?) coils for it that they sell for other machines, though.

For the Explorer/E-Trac I like the Joey coil and does well for me and others. Now on the Sovereign I tried 2 of them and I didnt care for them as much as 8 inch coinsearch and the 8 inch Tornado coil Minelab makes.I did like it better than the 8 or 10 inch BBS coils though.

After reading the limited info on this coil i decided to bite the bullet and buy one.It seems that most of the info i've read on this coil has been positive. It's now on the machine so today i decided to do a small air test.....this test was done indoors around electrical interference so sensitivity was turned down to the 11 o clock position to get a stable threshold. The first thing i noticed with the coil was the fact that i could get the sensitivity this high indoors....with the 10" tornado i have to drop it back t

Sorry about the last post....my computer is playing up....i'll start again later if i have'nt thrown this marvel of modern technology against the wall.:veryangry:

Things i have found so far with the joey:
1.The coil seems to be less sensitive to electrical interference than the 10" tornado.I can use the sensitivity a lot higher indoors than with the 10".
2.There is not much loss in depth compared to the 10" at a given sensitivty setting.I have been comparing different targets between the two coils and have found that on the smallest medieval coins the joey is at least as deep as the 10".Larger coins are picked up a little further away with the10".
3.The joey is ultra light on the gt.You could swing the gt all day with this coil on and you would not get tired.
4.It's really sensitive to small items....more so than the 10".
I did a small air test on four American coins:
1.1919 five cents.....8.5 inches.
2.1978 quarter....8.5 inches.
3.1974 cent....7 inches.
4.1977 dime....7 inches.
I was impressed with these figures....i could only get the sensitivity up to the 11 o clock position (due to electrical interference indoors)to obtain a stable threshold. These distances were ones that gave a strong two way signal.Outdoors away from interference where the sensitivity could be raised another couple of inches may be obtainable.I'm really looking forward to giving this coil a field test.I bought it to help me look for hammered coins in the trashier areas of my fields and from what i've seen so far it's looking like the joey may fit the bill. However, using it in the field is a totally different ball game....it may prove to be disappointing.I will let you know how it performed in the field next weekend(the next time i can get out) and hopefully it will live up to early promise.

Well i've just been out with the joey and it is now going to stay on my GT as my main coil......awesome.This coil is light, sensitive, deep and tolerant of electrical interference.I've found stuff today in the trashy areas of my field that the standard 10" coil has certainly missed.I love it.

Good info. Thanks for posting that. Wish more people would do some testing of various coils and settings on their machines to post.
