Little help

I'm trying to learn my 5900 Di Pro SL. I seem to be digging way too much iron. Even with Max Disc. and Geb. Disc. the meter signals quarter/half and hey... I gotta dig that right? Well it seems to be iron every time. Good depth some at 10 plus inches but I sure would love to keep moving and hit a coin or two. Granted the junk is mostly flat and sometimes round so I think the detector hits hard on these. I have found some coins but nothing old. Are there settings that I can use to avoid the iron but still hit the interesting stuff? Thanks in advance.
