Lithium, 925 and Au :)

Back to the beach I went to last time, the one with the windsurfing club. Must have been around 100 windsurfers out on the water today, looked really good. Pity I didn't have a camera with me, wife and kids went to Kyoto for the day so they wanted to use it there.

Used an Ace 150 for about five hours. Trash, trash and more trash......but, in between it all the coins flowed nicely. Including two older ones, 1922 and another that will need some research.
4,590 yen in coins (about US$38.25)

Dug up a few lithium batteries, they are used in electric fishing floats for night fishing. Luckily (for me) there aren't too many around the beaches.

Bought a digital scale recently, so might as well break it in today. :)
Pendant marked 18K, 6.8g (with three little diamonds?). Something quite large must have been set in that.

And a first, a bird bone with an ID ring marked Nippon 2003. :)

Tomorrow (Monday) is a school holiday for the kids so we'll go to the usual beach for a hunt together.

Excellent.....makes me wanna hit the surf and start hunting.
What kind of fish do you catch at night using the lithium battery floats? The 18k pendent is sweet.

Cheers !

Ian,

The hairtail fish, is that the hairtail ell? Thats a spooky looking fish.It must feed in the dark is that because its eyes are sensitive to daylight? Do they swim in schools? Are they ankle biters at night? Sorry for all the questions its kinda one of my fears swimming at night as well as metal detecting in water at night. We get lamprey ells in our lake and believe me you don't want one of them latched on to your leg.Its rare but does happen.

Cheers !

Your older mystery coin appears to be a Chinese Cash Coin. Here's a chart/pic of the years.
Great batch of finds! The bird leg may be the strangest find I've ever read about.
Congrats on the AU!!
Although I rarely make posts, I do frequently watch the postings here, and yours are always a treat. A totally different world.

Happy you enjoy the posts.

The characters are worn away on that coin so a bit difficult to ID it.
Have also been looking at this page again and he has helped me ID some in the past:

I don't usually metal detect in the water at night, or swim, so haven't been concerned about them. Have caught many on a rod and line though.

Didnot realize there was a Japanese Cash Coin as well. Would make more sense you would find one of those. Thanks for the info!

Jules
